BOUGATSA BAY — Restaurant in Athens

We recently spent 6 days in Athens after driving throughout northern Greece. We were introduced to Bougatsa by our niece after she and her husband vacationed in Crete. After a Google search for a patisserie that served Bougatsa, Bougatsa Bay appeared in the results with very good reviews. Even though it was the furthest patisserie within walking distance from our location, I decided to give them a try and am certainly glad I did. The owner was very nice and greeted me with a smile. He spoke very good English even though I tried to order in my limited Greek vocabulary. In addition to Bougatsa with cream, I picked up two decaf coffees for my wife and mother-in-law. The service was fast and Bougatsa was nice and crispy with a delicious cream filling. A totally surprising find on the way to another bakery. Highly recommend the namesake bougatsas. We had one savory and one sweet; I think the sweet was a tiny bit better just due to pairing with the dough. The savory was still very very good. On another day I'd go the other way. I really liked how the dough was not crumbly but also not chewy.

I also really liked the vibe, as this seems to be closer to the "locals" spots, at least for those who can afford to live in the area. The shops are more useful to living than to tourism, and this is a classic example. I can see myself reading here every other week.

Wow what an amazing place! We came here for breakfast and had some Feta Bougatsa, salami bagel, some other small baked pastries and 2 coffees. The owner (probably) was really nice, spoke good english and was really helpful with explaining us the different pastries. The coffee was the best we had so far in Athens! Prices are more than good for the quality of food which is great! Overall the place was nice with small indoor and outdoor seating.
