A very stylish restaurant/cafe/bar with an excellent menu. It is a bit pricy but worth the experience in my opinion. I ordered their Salmon salad for €20 for instance which I think is overpriced but it was delicious so I have no complaints. If you liker smoked salmon then I recommend it!
There are both indoor and outdoor seating where smoking is permitted. (Indoors may be no smoking. I am not certain.)
The cocktails are delicious! I ordered the Margarita, Piña Colada, and one of the house special cocktails called "Zombie" with rum and pineapple juice amongst other ingredients. The cocktails cost between €8 to €12. They are very strong (alcohol content) and worth the price in my opinion. Cocktails come with a small bowl of mixed nuts to munch on while sipping your cocktail.
The staff are very friendly and approach you promptly once you take a seat, offer you water from a large glass bottle which they leave on the table for you to have more water should you desire, and show you the food and drinks menus, leaving you to choose what to order.
Service is a little on the slow side but in my opinion that is perfectly acceptable as I think it is a relaxing atmosphere. I did not mind the wait as I enjoyed the ambience of the establishment. I smoked while waiting for my cocktail to be served quite content.
You can pay by credit card or with cash. I believe most major Credit cards are accepted. My Master Card was accepted.
I am not sure what time it closes but I was surprised to find it open after midnight on one occasion that I passed by the place. It's quite a beautiful atmosphere at night with the lighting and I recommend a visit after dark. Candles in little jars are placed on each table to illuminate the table and overhead lighting brightens up the area.
It is also a pleasant place to relax during the day where the shade covers the outdoor seating and you can enjoy the light breeze in the outdoor seats. So I recommend both a daytime visit and a nighttime visit.
It is my favourite bar/restaurant in Gazi. (My second choice is the Bulldog, a British style pub should you be...
Read moreI found this place by chance and I return 3 times. The venue is nicely decorated, the staff is friendly and the food is good. I am very picky with food and I was afraid to order their chicken and saffron risotto as this is a difficult dish to deliver (e.g., without the right brodo and spices, it can be blend and tasteless; without the right amount of brodo, it can be either sticky or soupy; without the right time of cooking and serving, the rice can be over cooked). None of the typical mistakes for risotto happen. The rice was al dente, the brodo and spices were spot on and the chicken breast survey on top was flawless (beautifully sealed, well seasoned and juicy). One minor issue is the “smoked ham” they used for my crepe - it was not ham! In Brazil, we call it “apresuntado”, in English it would be “processed ham” (which sounds redundant as ham is processed but this was overly processed, making the texture and taste way different - and worse! - from regular ham. This type of ham is cheap and it reflects on the taste, making it rancid. Hence, my suggestion is to either buy a proper ham or drop it off the menu. Other than that, my experience was exquisite and I would highly recommend...
Read moreDuring my recent visit to Cartone Café in Athens, I was thoroughly disappointed by the service, pricing, and the café's handling of a misrepresented drink.
When I asked about their green tea, I specifically inquired if it was loose leaf and made in-house. The staff confidently assured me that it was, only for me to discover upon tasting it that the tea was sweetened—an ingredient I cannot consume. When I questioned them again, they finally admitted that the tea was actually from a bottle, leading to further frustration and disappointment.
Adding to my dissatisfaction, Cartone Café attempted to charge me for the misrepresented drink. Not only did they provide inaccurate information, but they also expected me to pay for a beverage that was not as described.
Furthermore, the café's pricing was significantly higher compared to other establishments in Athens, making it difficult to justify the excessive cost.
Overall, my experience at Cartone was marked by misleading service, overpriced items, and an unacceptable attempt to charge for a misrepresented drink. I strongly advise others to seek alternatives to ensure a more enjoyable and fair...
