El burro tacos y tequila — Restaurant in Athens

Very interesting find in the Koukaki neighborhood of Athens. It's not listed on any of the "Top Mexican Food" places in Athens by any websites, so if you're not careful you might miss it! I was feeling homesick in Greece and I came here, where I was pleasantly surprised. The owner has been to Mexico and other Central American countries to study the cuisine, and you can tell he loves what he does. The tortillas are handmade, and they're delicious by the way. So much hard work and love goes into their dishes! I will say, the peach and cream cheese taco is not something I have ever seen or tasted before, but it was amazing. A small place, 'hidden' among the busy nightlife of Koukaki. The host greeted us like we had known each other for ages, wearing his best smile and cooking for us the tastiest Mexican food we've had for a good while! Very hospitable little place, dishes that felt like an abuelita would cook for family and friends, even the music on the background complimented the entire atmospere! Prices in accordance with the amount of food you were getting served were absolutely worth it, Margheritas were also a great something to have with your food. Definitely recommend it! We went to Athens a few weeks ago and stayed round the corner from here. The food was amazing (we tried all the different tacos) but the margaritas were even better! We ended up at El Burro every evening we were in Athens, either starting or ending the night here.
