I wanted to come in and show these cats a little bit of love! 💞. I enjoy this place because, to me, it feels like a French bistrot/brasserie meets Greek cuisine/flavors: they have one of the most creative menus I've seen in Athens.
I've eaten here on three separate occasions. The first time, I had the braised beef shoulder: some may call the portion small. It was 'the right amount' for me. On the second visit, I had a 🔥pasta with oxtails. On the day of this review, I had the braised suckling pork sandwich. On all three occasions, I had glasses of the Thymiopoulos red wine: a must try (very hard to find by the glass around). He is the guy who tamed Xinomavro, a Greek grape variety Nebiolo lovers will enjoy.
As for the service, I don't like being bothered when I eat and I had that. The servers are young, so yes, they will make young people mistakes 🤣 or faux pas: give them a little bit of a break. I've come at times when the place was not busy. I can see how, at busy times, their mistakes could be amplified.
In closing, I find Gaston better food wise than a lot of the higher rated places...

The menu has many meat options, but also appetizers and cheeses from different parts of Greece. The most impressive option of the menu, but also the one you see by the time you enter the restaurant and look under the big sign with the menu, is the pig on the spit.
Very tasty, very well cooked, served cut into bites with vegetables, but I think the quantity is too poor for the 16 euros it costs. Besides the pork, we really liked the picanha.
We did not like the French fries which were similar to a fast food chain. We also didn't like that there was no bulk wine and that they didn't offer dessert at the end. We also didn't like that they brought us a bottle of water, without having ordered it.
The cocktails are also worth trying, as there are many options.

Polite and helpful and all but, guys, when the bill comes at ~100€ for 4 dishes and wine for 2 people and they ask for an additional bottle of water, just don’t charge it. It costs you less than 1€ and makes people feel well-cared. Just my 2 cents.
July 2021: ⭐️ Only reason I’m giving Gastone 4 (VS perfect) rating is that 1. One time is not enough to ensure perfection is always being achieved and 2.
