[EDIT] - in response to the restaurant’s reply; my partner came to your restaurant same time last year and had a somewhat decent experience but it may have been because he was in a large group. Understandably you prioritise the larger groups and put the couples up onto the terrace. Regardless we won’t be returning after the dinner we were served (pictured, which is apparently a lamb chop). You’re better of going to Thanasis for traditional Greek food.

We had high expectations of this restaurant but unfortunately our experience wasn’t that great. We were seated up on the rooftop, great views, restaurant itself is in a lovely location.

At the end of the rooftop overlooking the main restaurant there were tables of 4, there were couples of 2 sitting on these tables. The couple next to us had left and so we asked the waiter if we could sit on their table, so we could watch the live music from the top. Waiter was extremely rude and explained the table was for 4, when there were numerous couples (of only 2) sat at them so he just wanted to be difficult for no reason. He said if no one came in an hour we would sit there but with his attitude, we said it’s fine. Low and behold some time later a couple of two were sat there!

This particular waiter was very cold, service was slow. The food didn’t look appetising at all and tasted just ok. We ordered cheese balls which were cold. There was one older waiter that was lovely who was serving us at first though. Also, we were given dry old bread which we didn’t ask for but were charged which is usually a customary.

Based off other reviews it may be worth the visit but I guess it depends on who is serving you. This waiter seemed tired and fed up, but this shouldn’t be taken out on diners as it put a downer on...

If you are thinking about going to this restaurant - DO NOT GO! I have found it online as a "great authentic Greek restaurant with authentic vibe", also got the recommendation for it from a local guide so me and my friend went there. The only thing that is good is the location and the local dancers which perform inside the restaurant. This you can find in a lot of other places in Athens where I hope the food and the service will be much nicer so you will get what we were hoping for. Service (if you can call it like that) - the waiter hardly said hello, poor English, we did not know what to order immediately so instead he helps us or recommend us some dishes, he just left us ... After we called him he came back but event did not have the curtesy to wait and take our entire order but left while we were still telling him what we will have. We ordered grilled feta - this was average but served in an aluminum foil (who does that any more...) Squid and octopus were so chewy that we just tried it and left everything on the plate - it was not eatable at all. When the waiter came to pick up the plates he did not ask a thing, even though plates were full... Brought us the bill written by hand so you do not understand a thing there (we made and effort to read all this and saw that there is a bottle of water which we did not order). To cut the long story short - typical tourist trap which only has a great location - nothing else. Acting as you are here this time with no intention of having repeated...

The location is the only star I can give. I was so excited to eat at the Athens stairs in Plaka but this caused it to be such a disappointment. The location is stunning and definitely visit the steps, but don’t eat here. I’m all for food being brought out when it’s ready but there was 20 minutes between my partners food and mine being brought out, which seems excessive and meant he just had to wait while I ate. The food was honestly the worst food we’ve had during our stay in Athens. We ordered the squid which was tasteless and like chewing rubber bands, the chicken souvlaki was grey, dry, tasteless and looked like it had been reheated, and the grilled sausage with fries was genuinely just that, a small pile of undercooked thick fries and a grilled sausage which was full of fatty lumps and that was it. The older waiter had absolutely no customer service skills, he was rude, abrupt, didn’t check on us once, our drinks were done and we weren’t offered anymore, didn't come over to check our food was okay after it finally arrived, didn’t offer any desserts, didn’t apologise for the lateness of the last meal. On top of all of that we still paid nearly €50 for a sprite, a coke, grilled sausage, fried squid and a chicken souvlaki. I could go on because there was more but if this hasn’t made you question going by now I’m not sure anything will, just a massive...

Wow! What an all around superb meal. This place is magical. At dinner time, the hills are alit with a soft glow, tables & chairs line the steps in different colors, grape vines hang from above and the majestic acropolis is your backdrop. Service by Christos was beyond PERFECT. We love restaurants that impart a sense of coming home to a home cooked meal, their joy to have us there was contagious. For that brief meal, we became family. The warmth, laughter and food made this an unforgettable meal in Anafiotika -thanks to Christos as well as all the wonderful staff here. We had such a good time we barely took any pics. We ordered the following for a table of 6 and every dish was absolutely delicious, fresh and healthy as well. 1. seabream 2. Sea bass 3. Grilled squid 4. Octopus 5. Pasta w seafood 6. Horta (dandelion) veges 7. greek salad 8. Pogranate fresh juices & 9. Carafe of red wine We did have plenty of leftovers. We had such a great time, we returned after our walk up the Anafiotika hills to return for drinks and dessert and joined in the greek music and dancing!

I had an awkward experience here. I am a half black half white American, and I’m not sure what exactly it was, but the staff treated me very strangely especially when it was time to pay. It was as if they didn’t think I was going to, because they were hawk eyeing my every move it seemed. Also, some of the patrons would point and murmur and it just felt very uncomfortable. At this point I have been to quite a few bars and restaurants and have never felt like this, and I don’t exactly know what it was about me that made everyone behave so strangely here. On a side note, the life music and the vibe was very nice and interesting, so as a local or someone who looks like a local, you’d likely have a better experience. I wanted to like this place but there were just too many moments where I felt like a zoo animal that I just can’t recommend for others who look like me. The lamb chops were okay but very chewy and not quite as good as other places nearby. Good luck!
