Savvas — Restaurant in Athens

This isn't easy for me to write, but this place was a disaster. I was recommended by a Greek to visit for the rooftop view of Acropolis and the food, but the only good thing was the view. The place was quiet with only 3 active tables on the rooftop when I got there. I was served by a gentleman who kept asking about the items I confirmed to order, but it appeared he wasn't understanding though I was direcrly pointing to the menu pictures (it was 1 salad appetizer and 1 meat dish). I Asked for water, but after about a 10 min wait and no water, I went downstairs to use the restroom (the female toilet had stool on the toilet seat! Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. I was forced to use the male toilet hoping no men would come in!). When I returned, a 2nd waiter came and re-asked my entire order...and again I ordered, but had told him I already ordered with the prior waiter. Apparently they don't communicate because he insisted it was a new order. He got me the water after I asked a 3rd time, but after over 25 min of waiting for a salad appetizer, and watching 2 tables of brand new customers who got in at least 5-10 min after me get served full dishes, I had enough. I asked the server to cancel the order and paid for my water. He kept insisting my food was coming and got upset that I was leaving. Really? This was horrific service by wait staff who have poor communication and poor serving etiquette (how do you serve 2 newer tables a full meal and disregard 1 person who was there for almost 30 minutes, on a light day with only a few tables?!). Guys, this place is way too hyped and absolutely not worth it. You're way better off at the restaurant row just in the corner block towards Kerameikos where you will also get a beautiful view of Acropolis - after this disaster, I took my behind at a local restaurant there with clean spaces and toilets, amazing wait staff and food. First impressions were very positive - bustling, not touristy and real authentic anatolian vibes. Part of the food was sensational - tabouleh, then most of the share meat selection platter….. Sadly we noticed the lamb tasted and smelled off/spoilt part way through the meal - the other meat (pork/chicken/veal kebab) and pita was delicious. We assumed it was perhaps hot weather and a slow sales day, initially resulting in the lamb going off. It happens. One could smell it and taste it clearly. We finished the rest of the meal and still enjoyed it despite this. We left the lamb gyro meat alone aside from the initial tasting and realising it was off. We pointed it out discretely to the manager and waiter, and this is where the place lost any appeal…. The only answer and action was to say that they’ll tell the kitchen…. Bizarre. No attempt to smell or investigate what we had on the plate; no appology or acknowledgement of this issue at all. It is a callous disregard for a food safety concern. We didnt expect anything more than at least being concerned and taking it seriously. As such no further scene and we paid given we enjoyed the rest of the meal. But just astounded by this exceptionally poor customer care and lack of concern for food safety. My experience here was horrible! I came to this restaurant because someone referred it to me and I wish I had never gone! I went to the counter to be seated, the woman told me sot down and a waiter will come. All 4 waiters saw me, walked by me, tended to other customers without acknowledging me! I had to literally interrupt them from walking to get their attention. They didn't bring me water like they did other tables who sat down. 4 tables sat down after me and got water and their meals before I even got water. I had to stop a guy to tell him I didn't get water but I already ordered. My beer never came even tho I ordered that early as I could. They deliberately ignored me. Felt very racist since not many black people are in this area. They flat out disrespected me by not paying any attention to me. I decided to grt my food to go. I should have jist left. The manager came and tried to fix it but the damage was already done. He was nice. And wanted to handle the situation. But the waiters were trash. Just ate the food. Chicken is super dry, the pork is real good and so is the bread. They didn't ask if I wanted any sauces or let me know the beer I wanted was out. Let's u know how they weren't taking me seriously.
