I recently had the pleasure of dining at Maiandros Restaurant in Athens, and it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the heart of the city, Maiandros offers a perfect blend of traditional Greek cuisine and a welcoming ambiance. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The decor, a charming mix of rustic and contemporary, set the perfect backdrop for a memorable meal. The menu is a delightful journey through Greek culinary traditions, with each dish prepared to perfection. We started with the mezze platter, a generous assortment of dips, fresh vegetables, and perfectly cooked seafood. The flavors were vibrant and authentic, a true testament to the quality of ingredients used.
For the main course, the moussaka was a standout. Layers of tender eggplant, seasoned meat, and creamy béchamel sauce melded together in perfect harmony. My companion opted for the grilled lamb chops, which were cooked to perfection – juicy, flavorful, and complemented by a side of aromatic herbs and vegetables. The service was impeccable, with our waiter attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He made excellent recommendations and ensured our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. To top it all off, the view from the rooftop terrace is stunning. Overlooking the Acropolis, it provides a breathtaking backdrop that enhances the dining experience, especially as the sun sets and the city lights up.
In conclusion, Maiandros Restaurant is a gem in Athens. Whether you are a local or a visitor, it promises a culinary experience that is both authentic and unforgettable. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy delicious Greek cuisine in a beautiful setting.

Read moreStopped here for lunch today after a visit to the Acropolis. We were hot and tired and looking for a light lunch close to the Acropolis. Decided to visit Maiandros after reading reviews and seeing food photos on Google reviews. Glad we decided to come here!!
We were greeted and seated on an outdoor table by a smiling waiter. We had a bottle of alcohol gel on our table for our use. The waiter's were wearing face masks and they kindly turned on their big black fans with watersprays to cool us down.
We ordered the seafood platter of calamari, prawns, white fish, bait, pickled herrings and pickled vegetables served with in-house prepared creamy mayo like flavoured sauce, garlicky cauliflower based sauce and a fava bean mash. Yumm yumm!!. My kids shared a spaghetti Bolognese which was delicious!!
This is a small family run restaurant. We were served by a very friendly and generous Vasilius (the son). Thank you for our complimentary olive oil fried bread served with kalamata olive paste (flavours are so clean and tasty). Our complimentary dessert of freshly chopped green musk melon was so refreshing and thoroughly enjoyed. The icing on the cake was our complimentary shot of Greek liquor. Amazing!! Thank you Vasilius!! Must visit here if passing by for their food and...
Read moreEasy dinner on the main walkway by Monastiraki plaza & station. A bit too touristy for me, but the staff were super friendly, the food was good, and the atmosphere was energetic with all the tourists and passerby’s to people watch. I was hoping for something a bit more mellow as I was dining solo.
I was full from a long day of eating, so I ordered the cold dips platter (4 or 5 different dips like Hummus, Garlic dip, Roasted Eggplant, Tzaziki, and a spicy feta dip). It also came with 4 dolmas and some cucumbers and tomato. The pita bread was ordered separately. I hadn’t asked, but the server surprised me with some warm bread about half way through my meal, on the house. It was delicious, warm, drizzled with olive oil. A nice treat! After paying (with card), they brought out free dessert, a small chocolate mousse that was divine!
Overall it was a good experience. I probably would not go back knowing that it is a tourist restaurant and there are so many other restaurants to try as a foreigner, but if you’re okay with the crowds, the food was really tasty and again service was really friendly and fast, so it is still a good choice! I thought the prices were high compared to other restaurants I’d been to in Athens on this trip, so something else to consider if you’re...
