One more new age taverna with slightly creative but extremely overpriced cuisine. Following the trend of the city, the menu is written in a very this fancy way, with ingredients you should not understand at first place. The food was quite good generally but small portions and quite expensive.
To begin with, we asked for tap water (which is the norm in Athens) and they ignored it by bringing bottled water... probably so they charge more.
We got a shopska salad, which is nothing more than a diced greek salad, but they call it with the Bulgarian alternative to sound more fancy. A quite small bowl costs 13€, which is absolutely criminal in Greece... We are talking about diced tomatoes and cucumbers! In Greece! During Summer! No cooking, no fancy adds on... for 13€! Unacceptable.
For appetizers we had cord ribs that were delicious, but again, 10 euros for one (1!!) sliced corn! The meatball dish was tasty indeed but consisted of 2(!) meatballs and 6-7 big fries, accompanied with industrially made strained yogurt... for the price of 14€. And the dessert... a small piece of soggy baklava, at least 3-4 days old, with one ball of icecream for 13€! Outrageous.
It's very disappointing to see new places opening in Athens only focusing on the tourists, totally ignoring the purchasing power...
Read moreMy mother, sister, and I spent 6 days in Greece, and this hidden gem was the highlight of the trip! I will dream about the lamb in white wine for the rest of my life! The Greek salad is big enough to share and the rabbit was literally perfect, but if you're really lucky and come during the right time, you absolutely have to try the cuttlefish risotto.
The cook, Vangelis, and his girlfriend Gina are the most friendly and adorable couple I've ever seen, and we instantly felt right at home. There's live music a few times a week and two versions of the smoothest locally-made raki I've ever tasted--I can't decide if I liked the spiced version more than the plain, but we were all begging for bottles to take home by the end of our stay! Vangelis was also extremely helpful in directing us to other types of authentic local food, which ultimately led to the most amazing street souvlaki place EVER.
The welcoming atmosphere of this place along with unbelievably delicious and authentic Greek food puts it at the top of our favorite...
Read moreKapani, at first glance a cross between a food court and a modern wine bar, impresses with a charming, small menu paired with excellent daily specials. Prepared live by a super-friendly chef, always with a friendly smile in the partially open kitchen. Modern interpretations of cuisine such as mackerel with a slightly sour potato and vegetable variegation or grilled corn strips reminiscent of octopus arms. Great bruschetta with raw fish and cucumber and a superb kebab with sweet onions and homemade mustard…really good and very skillfully executed. Add to that great service and truly competent wine advice! A great wine list, all natural wines, including five produced by the restaurant itself. Overall, a very pleasant location, modern but not too stylish. It also has a professional DJ booth and an excellent sound system. A definite must-go for...
