We were looking for Loukomades in Athens and this shop came up with high ratings so we decided to go for it. On the way here we passed through a Loukomades shop near the Omonia metro station that offered ice cream toppings so we almost stopped there. The street to this place was a bit sketchy but was still near enough the main road so we decided to go for it. When we found the shop we were not sure if it was closed since there weren't any customers, but there was a guy picking up delivery orders so we decided to enter and check it out.
There was only one man taking care of the place, so he is probably the owner. He was very friendly and invited us in to sit on a table. We ordered one portion of Loukomades which was 10 pieces and it was served to us freshly prepared, so it was still hot. It was very good and we were glad we didn't stop at the first shop by the metro because this one seemed more traditional and fresh. It was sweet, but not very sweet, so you can eat a lot of it without getting tired of the taste. The crunchiness was perfect and we were glad to have tried out this Greek dessert here.
I guess one downside was we got the impression that even though the street was run down the restaurants here would be authentic and delicious like this shop, so we ended up on a terrible restaurant down the road. So if you're in the area just go to...

Read moreIf you’re after the real deal when it comes to loukoumades, Loukoumades Ktistakis is where you want to be. These aren’t your regular syrup-drenched dough balls. The syrup is inside. Crispy on the outside, perfectly sweet on the inside, and topped with sesame seeds and cinnamon for that traditional touch. It’s a taste that takes you straight to Chania, where this 100-year-old recipe started before making its way to Athens.
The place has an old-school vibe, like a kafeneio from back in the day. It’s not flashy, but that’s part of the charm. The service is friendly and warm, just like the loukoumades. And the price is unbeatable, especially compared to other spots trying (and failing) to serve up the same thing.
For a taste of Greek tradition, Loukoumades Ktistakis is a must-visit. Simple, authentic, and worth every bite. Highly...
