Mezze Athens — Restaurant in Athens

I have never done a review for a place that I haven’t eaten at so this is a first, but we feel like this needs to be said. We went to the area to look at a restaurant next door to this place and thought we would look at this menu as well, although when we looked the worker greeted us as usual but then would not let us go and look at the other restaurant. It was unbelievable how pushy he was, and considering we had also been to Italy and France where they can also be pushy in tourist places we were used to this but this was above all the worst. He was not only being pushy but also being dramatic and would not let us leave and was saying how he felt sick and was going to throw up because we weren’t sitting down. We said we wanted to have a look next door at their menu to compare (which was our intention in the first place), and he said that if we do that then he might as well lay on the road and get run over by a motorbike (his words exactly). We were thinking of going in but because of how pushy and dramatic he was we decided to leave, and we spoke to someone else and they decided to leave for the exact same reason. My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Mezze! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the incredibly warm and friendly George, who was welcoming customers outside. His genuine hospitality and enthusiasm immediately caught our attention, and we decided to dine at Mezze instead of the restaurant next door. We didn't regret our decision for a second!

The ambiance inside was cozy and inviting, perfectly setting the stage for a memorable evening. The menu offered a fantastic variety of dishes, each more delicious than the last. The flavors were authentic and perfectly balanced, making every bite a delight.

George's personal touch didn't end at the door. Throughout our meal, he ensured we were comfortable and satisfied, making us feel like valued guests. It's rare to encounter such exceptional service, and George truly made our visit special.

As many of the other tourist trap restaurants this one is also located in busy street side Syntagma, nestled in the heart of Athens,kind of the new culinary sensation you didn't know you needed…With its curious cabbage salad, mysteriously spiced mashed potatoes, and undeniably goatless goat cheese dip, this quirky establishment stands out as a breath of fresh air amidst the city's bustling food scene.

The standout dish? A mesmerizing mushroom sauce that'll have you licking the plate clean! Sure, the bread may not be fresh from the oven, but it's certainly far from stale. As for the beef, well… let's just say it tastes like beef, which is a win in our books!

Having said that, Mezze might be the perfect destination for those seeking a lively street, people watching and unconventional dining experience. We should probably be back for more of those delightfully...
