I recently stayed here and was downgraded to a room that was extremely small in which I couldn't open my luggage anywhere and there was no room to move around. It was also immediately next to the hallway door all guests use to enter and exit, so I heard doors slamming and people talking all night resulting in no sleep. When I first entered the room, in addition to the misrepresented small size, the air conditioner wasn't working during an intense heatwave and the shower had a rancid smell as the room was not clean.|To make matters worse when I brought this to the attention of the front desk staff within minutes of checking in and requested another room, the responses included that they were fully booked (meanwhile I was one of the first to check in for the day, had booked months in advance, and multiple forms were behind them of guests they could have easily swapped with), I had already entered the room (how else would I have known of these issues?), they would cancel my reservation and I could go elsewhere, and I was accused of lying about the issues. Anthi at the front desk was especially unprofessional in all aspects. She raised her voice and caused a scene in front of other guests, argued incessantly about the concerns, disregarded the feedback to the point of full on ignoring me while I stood at the desk, came to my room at 11 PM and displayed such inappropriate and truly concerning behavior that I had to ask her to leave, to which she slammed the door. After having to ask multiple times to communicate with the manager, I was told he was on holiday so they couldn't get in touch or make any decisions. I was then given the general email address to file a complaint (the same one all staff has access to) to which I received a subpar response with yet more excuses, including lying about having offered me a different room which was never the case.|Zero stars. I highly advise not staying here as there are many options in the surrounding area. Even at the restaurant they reprimand guests when eating there for...
Read moreAs others have said, this place has all the bones of somewhere exceptional, but something is just… off. The service isn’t great, and the food just has no soul. It’s so expensive for what you get and the portions are tiny.
For example, avocado and eggs on toast should no be served with mayonnaise and cheddar and ONE SLICE OF BREAD for 14 EUR. Likewise, feta eggs should be served with more than just a warm wrap and some pistachio sauce for 15 EUR. There should be something a bit special about the dishes for that price. Everything about the branding and the vibe leads you to believe there will be but there just isn’t.
I don’t mind pricey, but for 15 EUR for a couple of eggs and bread, these better be up there with the best damn eggs and some solid service to boot. And it was neither. The waitress just forgot part of our order. We asked another waiter to please bring it over. He promised he would, and he forgot too.
I really love the focus on local foods. I think that’s brilliant. But this place needs a menu overhaul, the portions need to be bigger, and most importantly it desperately needs a floor manager who can run a tight ship, who is watching over tables to make sure water is being received on time, that tables are cleared, that guests are not left too long waiting to order, to check how guests meals are, and to ensure the servers are doing what they’re supposed to be doing. It seems like the whole place is staffed by kids and young adults too - which is fine, but they need guidance and management on etiquette and service. I’m not discounting that this place may just need more staff (the staff we saw did seem rushed) but more important the staff need better training and management and higher expectations need to be set and enforced
For example, we still not had received the missing item from the order, but we ran out of time and had to leave. We asked for the bill, and told the waitress - she was apologetic, but she should have offered for us to take the item away for free. She just kind...
Read moreI stayed here for 5 days, 4 nights and had an almost perfect experience.
I'll start with the negative: the staff at the market had the gall to gaslight me and insinuate that I was stupid for expecting "sea salt" chips to be salty -- but that wasn't the issue. The issue was that the chips I bought (by Serra, the brand that makes chips and chocolates for Ergon) were inedibly salty -- the kind that makes you spit it out. All I wanted was a credit for the next purchase I was going to make, and was denied along with rude attitude. And all over 2 Euros; those two staff need to get a grip. The woman behind the register was the only one with empathy but wasn't able to do anything.
Service at the restaurant can be hit or miss; I had an early dinner around 17:00 and had to ask twice and wait 15 minutes to pay my bill. The included breakfast was a plus, but service inconsistent with various wait times and difficult to get the attention of someone at times. The food I had each time was always delicious.
All the hotel and housekeeping staff I interacted with were friendly, kind, and helpful. The room was modern, minimalist and was stocked with vanity kits, robes, fluffy towels, crisp sheets, and coffee, tea, water. Because the rooms sit over the food hall/restaurant, the noise from downstairs reverberates up into the rooms if you're facing that side about midnight. If you're sensitive to noise and are hoping for an early night, bring ear plugs. They do have blackout curtains which is also nice.
I don't have experience with the rooftop bar but went up and the view of the Acropolis is stunning.
The location is very central to Athens and is not far from the X95 line to/from the airport and the 1, 2, 3, Metro lines at Syntagma.
I hope they're able to tighten up the consistency with their service at the restaurant and that the market hall staff can get a refresher on how to...
