I visited with my family on the recommendation of a friend.
The food was mostly good, but two of the five people at our table ordered dishes that were not to our taste at all. A salad with oranges, the dressing of which was like sugar water, and a seabass that was not great. The other three meals we had were delicious, if a bit salty (veal, lamb, and chicken meatballs) but were very poorly described on the English menu. The lamb was described as a casserole but was in fact grilled. The chicken meatballs were describe as "in an Arabic pie" when they were served on a pita-like flatbread. I could tell that several other entries likely had similar questionable translations or were described in very generic English terms where the Greek name would give a better indication of the dish. It would be like describing a lasagna as "tomatoes with pasta" or souvlaki as "lamb meat and vegetables." We did ask some questions, such as whether the tzatziki listed as an appetizer came with pita. We were told it did not. Fair enough, so we ordered a different appetizer. The server brought the tzatziki anyways then apologized and took it away and brought what we had actually ordered. Later for dessert we ordered coffees and she brought two of what we had only ordered one of. Again they took it away without issue after, but as far as a review that has to count as bad service even though it did not hurt the meal. It made us wonder if we had got the wrong main dishes when they did arrive, and we eventually figured it was the poor English descriptions. That wouldn't be a problem for a Greek reader I'm sure. The server asked us for a tip, maybe because we looked North American. But even in North America where tipping is customary, actually asking for a tip is considered quite rude and the only other place wit has happened in Europe was very much a tourist trap in Rome. What really ruined the meal were the many mosquitoes flying around our feet (indoors) and biting at us. Hasn't happened anywhere else in Greece. Patio I would understand but inside is disappointing to have happen. We wanted to leave sooner because of it.
If you speak Greek and want good Greek food I would still recommend this place. But if you are a tourist then ask many questions to make sure you know what you're ordering and don't assume the English menu description is accurate.
Not the worst, really. But disappointing for Michelin guide. We have eaten at several Michelin guide restaurants this trip of varying price and quality, this was a tier below them. Prices were...
Read moreWe visited oikeio restaurant hoping for a pleasant experience, but unfortunately, the staff's rudeness overshadowed any enjoyment. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming, and the service was consistently brusque. It's disappointing when the lack of hospitality tarnishes what could have been a delightful dining experience. The excessively loud music made it challenging to enjoy our meal, and when we politely asked the manager to lower the volume, their reaction was incredibly rude.
Regrettably, our dining experience was further marred when we discovered a hair in our food. This unsettling incident not only impacted our enjoyment but also raised concerns about the restaurant's cleanliness and attention to detail in the kitchen. It's disheartening when such lapses in hygiene overshadow the potential for a positive dining experience.
Adding to the disappointing experience, not only did we find a hair in our food, but the restaurant also failed to rectify the situation by removing the dish from the bill. This lack of acknowledgment and resolution further underscored the subpar customer service we encountered during our visit. It's disheartening when basic expectations of hygiene and rectifying mistakes are not met.
Our visit took an unexpected turn when we were abruptly asked to leave, seating another reservation. We had been informed that there were slots but that day the center was closed and with demonstrations and therefore I called personally to inform that we will be late. They didn’t mention anything. We arrived at 8.10 pm 10 minutes after the reservation. The lack of consideration for our dining experience and the seemingly rushed approach left us feeling unwelcome. It's disappointing when customer satisfaction takes a backseat to operational constraints, especially without prior notice or accommodation or offering an alternative solution. This is the worse experience we ever had both for regarding the food quality and of course the service. Please feel free to see my other Google reviews to know I am not a...
Read moreWe came at 8:30pm. They had none of the food we wanted to order from the menu. This included a starter from the main menu, the white roe, which is a standard item, then none of the main dishes were available, this included moussaka, rabbit dish, fish, artichoke. So we had to order stuff we didn’t want as too late to leave and find another restaurant. We waited over 30 mins for our food, they forgot to put the order into the kitchen. Then when our main dishes came, the steak, was raw /under cooked. Then when we got to dessert they didn’t have ice cream either, another standard item. When we asked to speak to a manager the staff were rude and told us to go speak to someone at the other end of the restaurant, when all we wanted was to explain our disappointment and give feedback, manager would not come to our table to discuss. Then eventually when they did come over, and we explained that nothing was available and our food that we did order was raw, they just said “that is how our restaurant is, we just work here, well let the owners know”. Normally we would have left in the beginning when we found out nothing was available but we’d driven 1.5hrs for this dinner and we were hungry. They ended up giving us a slice of cheesecake for free to apologise, but my recommendation is to get a table before 8pm if you actually want to taste anything on their menu, as the food looks ok even if the casserole dish was cold. Safe to say I won’t be going back to find out though, a very sad and...
