Avertá Resto — Restaurant in Ioannina Municipality

A massive disappointment. My significant other and I had heard and read glowing reviews of this restaurant, and decided that we absolutely had to try it for ourselves. Let's get the positives out of the way first: 1. Excellent and diverse wine list, 2. Polite and friendly staff, 3. Pleasant atmosphere, 4. (mostly) reasonable prices. We opted for a bottle of dry white wine and, at least initially, a single starter, the Trahancini (a spin on arancini using trahana, a local type of pasta) and two main dishes, spaghetti arrabbiata and braised veal cheeks. The trahancini were, of course, deep-fried and rather heavy on the stomach but otherwise relatively tasty -though certainly not worth the price for three pieces roughly 2.5 cm in diameter. The spaghetti was also relatively enjoyable, mildly spicy albeit a bit greasy. The main issue we had was with the veal cheeks, which we found to be overcooked, overly chewy and dry, not to mention tasting as if they'd been prepared that morning and thrown in the microwave when we ordered them. To add to all this, we found a rather thick and long hair in the sauce. We informed the staff, who were mortified and immediately removed the dish from our table. This, however, left us with only a single main dish so we decided to order another, the kritharotto (a local spin on risotto) with chicken breast. Apparently the restaurant's kitchen has not quite mastered how to prepare meats correctly, because once again we were served an overcooked and dry portion of meat. Also, the kritharotto itself was excessively rich and caused us stomach trouble until well into the next morning. We decided to cap off our evening with dessert, sharing a portion of panna cotta topped with pistachio spoon sweet and syrup, which was tasty but nothing to write home about, not to mention far too thick for our tastes. Επισκεφθήκαμε το εστιατόριο στις 26.12. νωρίς το βράδυ, μετά από τηλεφωνική κράτηση το μεσημέρι της ίδιας ημέρας, κατά την οποία ο ιδιοκτήτης δεν παρέλειψε να μας επισημάνει, πως η κράτηση ισχύει μονο για δέκα λεπτά μετά, παρέλειψε όμως να μας ενημερώσει οτι εκείνη την ημέρα δεν είναι διαθέσιμες όλες οι πίτσες (οι οποίες πέρα από τα ορεκτικά και τις σαλάτες, αποτελούν το μισο μενού του καταστήματος). Για την έλλειψη αυτή ενημερωθήκαμε, χωρίς καμία δικαιολογία απο τη σερβιτόρο, σα να έλειπε απλα ένα πίατο και όχι το "μισό" μενού! Μόνο μετά από ερώτησή μας ενημερωθήκαμε ότι ο λόγος της έλλειψης αυτής δεν είναι κάποια έκτακτη ή απρόβλεπτη συνθήκη, όπως υποθέσαμε, αλλά το ότι είχε τελειώσει το ζυμάρι και δεν ήταν χρονικά δυνατό να φτιαχτεί και να σερβιριστεί άλλο που να πληρεί τα στάνταρ του μαγαζίου. Αποφασίσαμε να μείνουμε για φαγητό, παρόλο που ο λόγος που επισκεφθήκαμε το εστιατόριο ήταν αποκλειστικά οι πίτσες του και το κρασί. Παρόλα αυτά η σερβιτόρος ήταν αμιγώς διεκπεραιωτική, καθόλου φιλική και εμφανώς κακοδιάθετη. Από την πλευρά του καταστήματος δεν υπήρξε καμία διάθεση να δικαιολογηθεί για αυτή την έλλειψη, ούτε ευελιξία, παρόλο που ρωτήσαμε δυο φορές αν θα μπορούσαμε να παραγγείλουμε κάτι συνοδευτικό με το κρασί πέραν του στανταρ μενού μιας και ελειπε η πίτσα. Εννοείται επίσης πως δεν μας προσφέρθηκε τίποτα. Επίσης, από το σημείο αυτό και μέτα (ίσως και τυχαία, δεν υποννοώ κάτι!) δεν εμφανίστηκε ξανά ούτε η σερβιτόρος ούτε ο ιδιοκτήτης, ούτε καν όταν φύγαμε, όπως αναμέναμε, ώστε να μπορέσουμε να εκφράσουμε κατ ιδίαν τα παράπονα μας. Φωτεινή εξαίρεση η νεότερη σερβιτόρος, η οποία ήταν ευγενέστατη. Το φαγητό ήταν ικανοποιητικό. Συνολικά, θεωρώ πως μια επιχείρηση που αναμένει σεβασμό από τον πελάτη ως προς την τήρηση της ώρας κράτησης και το εκφράζει και τόσο ρητά, θα έπρεπε να απαιτεί από τον εαυτό της να σέβεται κι εκείνη τον πέλατη πχ. με το να τον ενημερώσει τηλεφωνικά για αυτή την τεράστια έλλειψη στο μενού. Κατά τη γνώμη μου παντελής έλειψη επαγγελματισμού και φιλοξενίας. Προφανώς δεν θα επισκεφθώ ξανά το συγκεκριμένο μαγαζί και δεν θα το πρότεινα και σε κανέναν ντόπιο ή επισκέπτη στα Γιάννενα, μιας και υπάρχουν πολύ...

A wonderful restaurant behind the walls of the Fortress, very close to the Main Gate. An incredible atmosphere of coziness and hospitality, great food - a modern reading of classic dishes, with an eye for small details. We ordered several things, everything was very tasty, but my favorite was the mushrooms with butter and balsamic, as well as the slow-cooked beef cheeks with mashed potatoes. Very good selection of wines. Great staff of young and smiling people who approach the guests with unobtrusive concern.
