I decided to visit this restaurant after reading the many excellent reviews but I was very dissapointed. When I arrived I asked for a table for two and the waitress waved her arm up the steps to the main seating area. She did not show us to a table and as most of the tables were layed for four people, we were unsure where we could sit. We ordered drinks but the order came out wrongly. The reviews had said the waiters are friendly and helpful but the ones that served us had all the charm and warmth of robots. I ordered the kleftiko which consisted mostly of bone and fat with little meat, a few small potatoes and a tiny amount of carrot. All this for 18 euros! My wife had the 'meat' Moussaka. They did an excellent job of hiding the meat as my wife was hard pressed to find any. Both dishes were ok but we were expecting much better. No desserts were offered. The restaurant was busy but the atmosphere was of a shool dining room. The proprietor kept appearing from the cooking area looking around anxiously then disappearing. The experience the evening gave me was one of a restaurant trying to cut costs of ingredients and make as much money as possibly before the...
Read moreA true Greek gem in Afitos – Mpogiata is a must-visit!
We have visited Mpogiata in Afitos, Halkidiki several times over the years, and it has truly become one of our favorite spots in Greece. This cozy, family-run restaurant offers an authentic and heartwarming experience that keeps us coming back time and time again.
The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with a true Greek charm. The entire family is involved in running the restaurant, including a wonderful group of young adult siblings who add an extra touch of warmth and energy to the place. One of the daughters speaks fluent Swedish, which is a lovely surprise for us coming from Sweden, and everyone in the family speaks perfect English, making communication easy and pleasant.
The food is traditional, delicious, and generously portioned – all at very reasonable prices. Whether you're in the mood for a classic moussaka, fresh tzatziki, or a simple Greek salad, everything is made with love and care.
Mpogiata is not just a place to eat, it’s a place to feel at home. We’ve never been disappointed and always leave with full hearts and full stomachs.
Full marks from us – highly...
Read moreThis restaurant is a family business on the hill of Afytos, owned by Eliftheria, with her siblings hosting the guests and mamá (Despo(?) - who also makes delicious jam) cooking. Sister Fey and the rest of the team (Kosta&Co who next to the real family feel „like family“ they say- and you can feel the good vibes!) are the perfect hosts and it’s just a pleasure to be here. From 3 nights in town, we couldn’t help ourselves, but come here (you’ve guessed right) THREE times. The food is prepared with love and care and the lovely home-cooked-traditional flair. According to the sisters, the menu exists of their favorite dishes their mom would cook for them at home. Thanks for sharing! The ambience is lovely and lively in the summer months. You can sit under an olive tree on the stone terrace. On top of it all, we are vegans/vegetarians and gluten free. Not so easy to cater for. Without any difficulties, we found great various choices on the hand-written menu (“imam” is to die for“) and were cared for with ease and respect, fun little stories and love. Thank you for the wonderful time with you guys and thanks for having...
