The location is very nice with the restaurant on both sides of a narrow alley. When walking in we had to signal the staff several times to be noticed, definately a first, even though the restaurant was only half full.
We ordered spaghetti for our youngest child to be served before the rest of the food. Instead our hot main dish came within minutes of ordering along with the starters. That’s another first for us. It’s also strange since the chef’s need time to prepare the food. The main dish fried calamares was undercooked and soggy which makes me wonder if it was re-heated?
Even worse the staff forgot to bring us our plates when they served the food. No plates, no forks and no knives - and no one took notice. Again we had to signal and wait more than five minutes to get help.
After about ten minutes our kids spaghetti arrives. By that time our child refuses to eat and everyone wants to leave. We are disappointed at the service provided and the food served. It doesn’t help the tzatziki, greek salad and bourjordi were ok. The staff did bring us dessert for free, but that didn’t help when diner...
Read moreWe visited Mpakaliarakia on a rainy evening, so the place wasn’t too busy and no reservation was needed. Overall, the experience wasn’t terrible, but it didn’t impress us either. The food was average — one of the dishes we ordered, the fried zucchini, was particularly greasy and lacked balance. Service was slow, and a noticeable issue was that our table wasn’t cleaned before we sat down — there were crumbs and leftover bits of food, which didn’t leave a great first impression. Compared to other restaurants we had visited in the same town, one small detail stood out — there was no complimentary dessert or gesture, which is quite common in most places around. While this wasn’t an issue, it was something we noticed based on our previous experiences. In short: an okay meal, but not one we’d...
Read moreI recommend any reader to stop looking for another taverna and go to Ta Mpakaliarakia Tou Peirati every day. This is what we did for almost 10 days straight (we tried all of the rest, tho) for dinner and we were delighted. Fast, well mannered and cool waiters, superb food, good prices, good ouzo (and house tsipouro). A few times we were enjoying the food and drinks and out of no where the waiters bring us more ouzo and wine on the house. We barely managed to go home (we got very drunk). We have never been treated so well in a taverna in Greece before. 100% will go to Ta Mpakaliarakia Tou Peirati every day when we are back to Afytos!
Highly recommend, a must...
