We came in Avli so curious to see how this restaurant works, as it has so many positive reviews. To begin, they let us seat in this nice terrace and, after few minutes one nice girl came and brought us a bottle of water and the menus. The menu does not offer a big selection of items(none of the typical greek recipe) and it s not really well explained. We had a look and we waited for the waiter so we could have asked everything. Nobody came, we waited at least 15 minutes before someone cared about us. Once arrived, we, asked how some dishes were coming but the guy did not seem really chatty. We decided to share some starters and one main for each of us. The starter came one by one, not all together, and even if we were still eating they came with the mains. Two of us ordered mussels, one the sea bass and the other veal. Portions were OK and food was nice, the sea bass came out of the bone(after they said was fresh) but in any case everything was good. During the dinner, nobody came to ask how was the food, if we needed something else or giving us some attention. Once finished they removed everything and we litterally stayed seated for half an hour without anything in front. We asked for the bill but nothing, we were just there abandoned. We finally decided to stand up and pay at the cashier and the girls insisted for us to stay seated(she was the only one with a smile on the face and kind) . After few minutes the guy that took our order came with a plate of fruit (saying it was on them!) and the bill. When I checked the bill everything was in Greek but the price was too low for the dinner we had, and in fact it was a mistake. We paid 85.60 euros, which is fine but I think it was a bit overpriced for the portions we ate and specially for the service. We went away disappointed. The starters, we waited way too long for them to arrive and when they did the quantity and quality wasn't up to standard. At least the starters we as a group ordered. The main dishes to our astonishment did NOT come accompanied by anything at all. No chips, no rice not even vegetables or a small portion of salad. You would order chicken for main for instance and a small plate with plain chicken is what you would get WITHOUT making that clear in the menu. Another thing was, main dishes did not come together and as a result if we wanted to eat all together out of respect we would all have to wait up to 20 minutes so that everyone would get their main before we could start eating which is just simply unacceptable. King prawns were most likely baby prawns for the price of golden ones. I am local to Corfu and I have lived in the UK for more than a decade and I just cannot get my head around all the positive reviews that place has. It is astonishing actually and I really don't know where these people come from. If you guys think that this is as good as it gets for local Corfiot cuisine or even Greek cuisine you are terribly wrong. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course but for the money and the experience you could eat MUCH better for MUCH less. We were 3 adults and two small children. We had water and wine and two lemonades, 3 starters and 5 main course meals and ended up paying 107 euros. Unacceptable for the quantity, quality, service and experience all together. I do not recommend the place at all, try your luck somewhere else. From the moment we arrived at AVLi, we knew we were in for something special, and we weren't wrong! Forget flipping through menus; we simply asked our wonderful hosts, Ilias and Adonis, to guide us through the best local flavors the island had to offer. Their passion for the food and for making guests feel truly welcome is simply infectious.
What followed was a feast – a genuine celebration of fresh, local ingredients prepared with love and simplicity. We savored juicy tomatoes with sweet onions and fragrant olive oil, perfectly grilled halloumi, creamy and delightful tarama, tender grilled octopus, and succulent calamari. Each dish was a testament to the quality of the produce and the skill in the kitchen. And let's not forget the wonderful house wine, the perfect accompaniment to this incredible meal.
It was honestly a feast the likes of which we hadn't experienced in a long time – unpretentious, utterly delicious, and simply wonderful.
Finding such attentive and genuinely caring hosts like Ilias and Adonis is a rare treat. They effortlessly create a magical atmosphere through simple, mouthwatering food and direct, heartfelt communication. They were even thoughtful enough to remind us to enjoy our dishes while they were still warm when our phones rang – a small gesture that speaks volumes about their dedication.
