I visited Da Giovanni Aglio e Olio restaurant a few days ago and had a mixed experience.
The food was fresh and delicious, and the service was perfect. The two girls who served us were friendly and helped us with suggestions.
However, the location was just okay, and the price was too expensive for street food.
Additionally, the network connection for their POS machine was not connecting outside, which created a conflict.
Although we could see the payment in our phone, the waitress called the manager who was not willing to discuss our concerns. We were worried that if there was something wrong, we would not leave without paying. The manager’s behavior was abrupt and threatening when discussing customer concerns about payment issues. He mentioned that he would call the police which was not the case at all. It is not like we were not willing to pay. He started talking on his own non-stop and saying that the same day the same thing happened with three other payments and that he lost 80 euros because of the poor network. He blamed Albanian network for this issue since the network signal is coming from there. We think that if they had the same problem three times on the same day, they should have done something instead of threatening their customers with police. If outside the POS is not working; they could have asked their customers kindly to join and pay inside as many Greek restaurants do in Corfu.
The atmosphere was strange since the waitress was scared and stressed when the POS was not connected yet and couldn’t see our payment. On the other hand, Giovanni seemed rude, and when we left, we could hear him and another Italian guy shouting and fighting with each other, which was an unpleasant situation. Seeing the service being afraid of him was not...
Read moreThis review is difficult because there's some really good things and others not so much.
We came specifically because of the gluten free options so that's a huge plus. However, you pay for it. €3.50 or something extra for a gf pizza..
We ordered starters and then the waiter said the portions were so big he presumed we were sharing. We weren't, what my husband ordered I didn't eat, what I ordered he didn't eat. We then had this trouble with our order as the waiter couldn't understand our lack of sharing. Neither item (bruschetta or mushrooms) said it was for two so it felt reasonable we'd be ordering for one.
Some confusion later, the waiter suggested my husband have something else (beef carpaccio) as that was still a big plate, but also much thinner so prob ok for one.
The whole thing seemed odd. Most starters are for one unless they specify "sharing". The bruschetta is so big apparently so not a dish for one person. I don't eat bread (gf) so it's restrictive that their starter options are really for two. They should advertise that.
In addition, wastage is the restaurant's responsibility, and I'd hope they were factoring that into their future strategy.
Pizza, main, was good. Gf pizza is hard to do well. It was nice to have a gf pizza at all so for that I was grateful, but in reality the base was too thick and doughy,.and the edges cooked too much and soo crispy. Pizza express is better for texture of gf pizza.
I guess the worst thing was the toilets. I'm guessing not maintained at all. Hardly busy at all, but the toilets had tissue paper everywhere, stains on the floor and toilet, a puddle of water in one loo. Pretty disgusting for even women's toilets. No idea...
Read moreAte a pizza here for dinner and regretted it. The pizza was not really good even though the pizzeria should be Neapolitan, the pizza they make tastes nothing like a Neapolitan one (Italians beware do not order a pizza if you have high standards). They also have gluten-free options, which is great considering the scarcity in Corfu. However, they charge a an extra for it and the taste was quite horrible, perhaps it was a frozen crust with fresh seasoning. Yet, the worst part of the experience had to do with the impolite behavior of the owner who was very rude about a malfunction with the card reader. Overall, I would avoid this restaurant as it has no redeeming qualities. There are better and more affordable options...
