Two of the top foods in Crete are here. Hands down the best pita gyros in Crete. We have tried countless but none had the overall quality and cohesion as this one. Big difference is the pita they use. One of the waitresses told is that they use the old school pita bread (as opposed to most of the other gyros places). The dough is perfectly soft and they also grill it for the extra flavour. The balance of veggies, potato, meat and sauce is spot on. Must ask with tzatziki. The best we have tried in a gyros. Meat has a great flavour and the potatoes are perfectly fried but creamy soft in the inside. Really amazing!!! The next one is the moussaka… this one is also the best one (to our taste) on the island (and possibly in Greece). Well balanced, juice, has sufficiently strong flavours (some people might not like it). But believe me, it has the wow effect. The other moussakas of the island are far behind. Only one from the mainland is on par with it. Moussaka business is not an easy one! Again, this is only according to our taste. Hats off to this establishment. One thing caught our eye: while another couple got free dessert and raki, we didn’t. We had a moussaka with small greek salad, gyros and beer - maybe we spent under the threshold of giving free stuff. It’s understandable if people only ask for gyros but we were a bit surprised. Nevertheless the food and the warm service beats this...
Read moreI don't normally leave poor reviews for small businesses but where there's such glowing reviews and such a poor experience I can't let it pass.
Arriving, there wasn't a waiter in sight but as we hovered by the entrance menu someone came over to inform us that there was no gyros - that was ok.
We ordered some drinks as we reviewed the menu.... Then we'd our waiter bouncing to and fro as he checked what else was missing.... Kleftiko, no. Stifado, no. The third choice lamb dish escapes me but no.
Each time the waiter was running off to check... We paid for our drinks and left - it wasn't great beer either!
There really didn't feel like a welcome, there's so many better places with slightly lower ratings - I don't think this is worth a second chance.
We probably should have ignored the Google ratings and took the Happy Hour sign as a warning.
Edit post Owner response: Places sell out, this is true, but it's usually for waiting staff to be informed and able to guide the customer to what's available.
We had a progressively frustrating experience, drawn out more than it should have been - to the point of us giving up on you that evening.
I noticed your responses to other 1* and have sought to give you a review you could learn from. Whatever the reasons, I can't really re-score on the experience I had and the...
Read moreWent there last night based on a recommendation and the reviews on here. I had the chicken gyro plate and it was good. My husband had the special with was lamb souvlaki with a beer. Food came out quickly. Not sure if he was the manager but he asked how everything was and we were honest and let him know that the lamb was chewy. It was overcooked in my opinion. The server came by and asked if we were finished and cleared off the table. We waited expecting to get the free dessert (ice cream I believe) and liquor that all Crete restaurants give after your meal. But nothing for 5 minutes. We then asked the server for the bill and thought he would bring it out with the bill. But instead he didn’t give me a bill he just brought the card machine. Not sure if the honesty would be the reason for us not getting the liquor served or just the lack of good service as the other tables got their...
