Situated on the outskirts of Paleochora this is certainly not just another family-run traditional taverna. The settings may by a little on the kitsch side but the overly warm attitude and the pleasant shade under trees compensates for. You will be welcomed with a local treat to take away: olive oil and raki. Actually, the family has its own farm and garden and their ingredients are of indisputable quality. So is their cooking. We went yesterday night and the night before with the kids (teens). The food is great, one of the best places around, for sure! The service is very kind (by the family owners). It's a bit out of Paleochora but it's worth it! We are sorry we discovered the place just two days before leaving. Very generous and kind people, with fresh products from their own farm. Le taverne cretesi, qui perfettamente rappresentate, sono posti dove regnano sapori semplici, autentici e autoctoni, dove le verdure sono dell'orto e le carni degli allevamenti contigui. Qui insomma vige il km 0 per necessità, ma senza retoriche (semplicemente perché la cultura agricola va in quella direzione), soprattutto conta l'abbondanza e l'ospitalità. Qui il cibo non si racconta, si mangia e la qualità ha pochi salti qualitativi ma una costanza media notevole. Il servizio è puntuale e cordiale e il cibo è abbondante perché funziona così. E se ne avanza si porta a casa.

Questo scontrino conta: Due antipasti molto abbondanti, preceduti da una piccola bottiglia d'olio prodotta da loro. Quattro secondi di carne, tra cui delle costolette di agnello notevolissime. Due birre medie, acqua, pane. I secondi sono tradizionalmente accompagnati da patate fritte e insalata.

La caratteristica della taverna è che si viene serviti velocemente ma è difficile andarsene. Se ti alzi per pagare il conto si intristiscono e ti fanno notare che non ti hanno portato ancora la frutta e, nello specifico di questa taverna, il loro gelato fatto in casa, ricordandoti che non devi pagarlo.
