This place is a real gem in the heart of Kos. We ordered Saganaki and the owner said he had something better for us. He brought out deep fried courgette generously flowers stuffed with feta in a light batter. Absolutely amazing. Then we shared Moussaka and a Pork dish that I can only compare to slow cooked pork but it honestly was so soft it could have been anything from Lamb to beef. I've never had such nice tasty food on holiday. It's definitely home cooked. The Moussaka is incredible despite the other reviews but I assume most people are used to ready meal Moussaka.... this is the real thing! They don't seem to do dessert and after a huge meal like that you wouldn't want to anyway. They didn't rush us for the table back we were able to chat and drink and chill out. The owner then recommended his own Garden bar which was 2 min walk away Esquina. I will leave a separate review for this but you have to visit this restaurant for dinner. His mother who is 76 gets up everyday at 6am and cooks it. And it's fabulous. We love it and we are glad we found it. It's an independent perfect and very busy little place with smiling staff. Cost about 20 euros each for the images attached and 2 beers and 2 waters. Dinner was finished...
Read moreWhere to even start!!!! My girlfriend and I were looking for an authentic place to eat and boy did we find it!! We knew the place was going to be excellent by the amount of people they had. We waited for ~15min just because we wanted to sit outside. We had some wine while we waited and the staffs energy only made us feel welcomed. We had looked at the menu but alas Mr. Elias read our mines and knew us better than we knew ourselves and picked food for us. I do not have any dietary restrictions but my girlfriend is vegetarian and they had the most amazing vegetarian options. Mr. Elias started us off with fried feta balls with squash flower and…WOOZA!!! We had a taziki and garlic dip that was to die for. For our entre I had pork and potatoes in a wrapped paper like material to keep all the flavor and boy was it magnifique! My partner had stuffed peppers and tomatoes and it was beautiful. If I could give this place more stars I would!!!! Only wonderful people work here and you can feel that it’s the mission to serve people and make sure they have a good time. As we ended our night Mr. Elias gave us a recommendation for a cocktail bar nearby! I had to take a picture with him as to commemorate such an...
Read moreAstounding local home cooking. The value for money for quality of food served here can’t be overstated. The service and atmosphere is friendly, relaxed, rustic, no-frills, easygoing and not in any way pretentious... you get the picture!
As a general rule, I prefer to try new places (in a hit or miss kinda way) rather than revisiting restaurants. However, in the few days we’ve been in town, we have visited Mummy’s twice already and plan to dine here again, to sample other stuff before leaving.
Ask for the dish of the day (canelones in our case… which out of respect, I can’t say were as good as my Catalan grandmother’s St Stephen’s Day canalones, but were certainly up there), I doubt you’ll be disappointed. We’ve also tried a few of their greens dishes, as well as the squid and moussaka 👌👌👌
Ask for the gorgeous, smooth garlic dipping sauce to accompany everything, so long as you’re not sharing a room with anyone that...
