We stayed in this hotel for six nights in mid to late May – one of these nights had to be arranged on the morning of our stay before the actual booking took effect. We had weather difficulties with the ferry and found the Blue Lagoon Group understanding and helpful in our predicament. This is a modern hotel with 133 rooms over six floors situated in a residential area away from the harbour. There is a Spa (but we did not use it). We reached it on foot having arrived by ferry from Turkey. (Queues for Passport Control were lengthy). There was little to no availability of taxis at the ferry port and walking to a rank on Dolphin Square only underlined that there was a lengthy queue for very few taxis. We walked for a total of 15 to 20 minutes with hand luggage only. The journey would probably not be easy for guests with significant amounts of luggage. We believe the hotel caters fully for guests with mobility issues. Entry into the hotel leads to a reception area with comfortable soft seating. There is more soft seating to the right side of the reception. To the left hand side there is a generously sized bar area with soft seating and chairs and tables (and a bookshelf!). Reception is staffed 24 hours. We understand there to be a car park beneath the hotel. There is some on-street parking. Our room was a Junior Suite. It was a single room but large and generously appointed with a balcony. Adjacent to the sitting area was a lobby with wardrobes and the wash-hand basins. There were separate rooms for the WC and walk-in shower. The wash-hand basins and the walk-in shower were both side-by-side doubles. Toiletries were excellent. There was a safe, a refrigerator (with water) and tea/coffee making facilities. Everything was clean, worked and had been well-maintained. All the linen and towels were of very good quality. We experienced no significant noise issues – there was occasional noise from the corridor and from nearby roads. Wifi was excellent and the air-conditioning was one of the best we have experienced! For very light sleepers the extraction fans were running continuously with a low thrumming – it did not bother us. Housekeeping in our room and throughout the hotel was exemplary. The condition of the public areas reflected a high degree of maintenance on a regular basis. We took breakfast each day and had occasional dinners. Breakfast was taken in a large room on the ground floor to the right of reception. We did not experience any crowding but it may become full in high season. Breakfast was self-service from a buffet, largely American style. There was a cooking station for omelettes, pancakes and the like. All food was well-presented, regularly replenished and of high quality. Occasionally we, as vegetarians, could not obtain a hot choice apart from fried eggs. We took dinner in the pool restaurant/bar. The quality of the food was high, it was a la carte, there was a good choice and service was beyond reproach. This bar/restaurant is on a lower ground floor adjacent to the swimming pool and separating it from a seating and lounging area. Whilst covered it was not enclosed and on one night proved to be a little windy. The hotel is a 10 minute stroll to the harbour where there is a multitude of restaurants. We found, in the streets surrounding the hotel, that there were rather better restaurants at a better price and with varied cuisine. The hotel is also about 10 minutes’ walk to the Old Town where again there are restaurants, but we felt over-priced and crowded. The main sites in Kos Town are within easy reach (on foot) and the Asclepion about a 15 minute taxi ride for which we paid 25 euros return (we got the return journey by ringing the driver). All staff were friendly, professional and most with good English. Some of the breakfast staff were less than fluent but compensated by being extremely helpful. The receptionists knew their jobs, they had good English, were knowledgeable and anxious to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The Pool/Bar Restaurant staff were exceptional. They were friendly, attentive and efficient. The hotel did not appear to take tour groups but it does provide accommodation to package holiday operators – we were independent travellers and it was no problem. This hotel provides a high level of service well beyond its four star rating. For guests not seeking a purely beach holiday it is ideal. We would...
Read moreHello Blue Lagoon city hotel,|I am normally not the person to write a review as I worked in tourism myself for many years and I know how personal an experience can be. But, this time, I make an exception in the hope the management can see it as constructive feedback..||I am Belgian, living in Bodrum (Turkey) for 17 years already. This time I came to Kos with my husband only to spend a day & night, a nice & easy weekend away after a busy work-week. It was a last minute idea, so I checked online, saw this hotel with many good reviews and central location. Most websites had a similar price offer around 80€/night (with breakfast). A little above budget as the hotel is only a place to spend the night for us but it looked so nice that we decided to try it. ||As I worked in several hotels myself I know the price at the reception can be a little higher but …. we were shoked to learn it was 128 € / night. We asked the receptionist some time to think about it but because our time was so limited, we finally decided just to go for it and spoil ourselves.||If you ask this amount of money, much higher then all other hotels in the area, it needs to be very good. But unfortunately it was not. I expected a lot of the breakfast but it was very basic and dissapointing. The ambiance is like eating in a hospital-restaurant. It’s only possible to eat inside with a view upon a wall covered with plastic fake green. There was no music. It gave us a very strange feeling overall.||For a hotel that present themselves as a city hotel, open all year, summer and winter, you should maybe take better care of guests who come only for a night, for exemple coming from Turkey. Why? Because if we like it we’ll come back, summer and winter, because it’s so close, and a nice thing for us to do. I don’t think that in winter you still have the manty Dutch guests coming and then what you’ll do?||So my suggestion is to think about that before charging this ridicilously high rate for 1 night. I must say that the hotel is very clean, that the shower was great and the receptionist was very friendly but overall not worth the money, not at all.||Anyway, in the end it was our own mistake and we learned our lesson. We’ll never be so impulsive again. We will come back to Kos for sure but unfortunately not to your hotel ||Good luck to you,||With Kind...
Read moreJust returned home from a one week stay at this hotel. The hotel has a fantastic location... It's super easy to walk to the marina or the old town, there is a small supermarket next door and an amazing ice cream shop a couple of mins down the road.
The majority of staff are super helpful and friendly with a couple (whose names escape me, female blond hair and glasses works in the pool bar during the day and male with dark hair who works in the pool bar at night) being completely wonderful and a real asset to the hotel.
Our room was just as pictured and the shower was wonderful!
We didn't like the cooked breakfast options in the morning, but the yogurt, fruits and breads were nice enough and the food available for lunch from the pool bar was all really good... The tzatiki, chips, baguettes, wraps and pizzas were all great and we enjoyed eating there.
The biggest issue we had during our stay was the pool and some of the other guests... The pool and number of sunbeds is really far too small for this size of hotel, we saw two men arguing and almost have a fight over beds, a man decided to move my bed to a different location while I was in the pool so he could squeeze more in next to his group, you'd regularly see a family or a couple sharing a single bed, and see people coming and then going as no beds were left. The hotel also allows balls in the pool, and some of the men were quite aggressive with throwing it to each other, which made it feel quite uncomfortable and unsafe - I saw a girl hit in the face with one at one point, and although she was fine, its not the kind of environment I like. The hotel also allows smoking and vaping around the pool and the pool bar, which I didn't like.
Overall the hotel is very well located, it's nice and clean, and the staff are lovely. If a pool isn't important to your holiday or if you don't mind a very active pool and an early scramble for a bed then I'd totally recommend this hotel, but if you prefer a quieter pool and a lie in then I...
