We had dinner in Archontoula with my boyfriend and the whole evening there was just a terrible experience. Please take the time to read through the whole thing. We ordered a Greek salad, fried Feta Cheese (Saganaki) and for the main courses, a rooster with pasta and a beef steak. We asked for the steak to be medium rare. We waited more than half an hour for the greek salad to come and the fried feta cheese didn’t come at all. We waited ages for the main courses although the couple next to us who had ordered just minutes after we did, was served on time and had already finished with their dinner by the time our orders came. When the waiter took our plates to serve us the main courses I accidentally dropped my knife and asked the waiter for a clean one. The waiter just casually grabs my boyfriend’s already used knife and says “here, have this one”!!! This shocked me so much I didn’t even know what to say. Like this wasn’t even enough the steak was not even close to medium rare. It was overcooked and honestly impossible to eat despite the fact that such a steak costed 17€ (!!!). We obviously asked the waiter to return the steak and asked for the bill. The cherry on top is that the bill was 61€ with the steak and the Feta cheese included!! When we confronted the waiter about this he was rude and said that the chef said the steak was good and it was served so that means we have to pay for it although we didn’t eat it. My boyfriend, who had had enough of this nonsense, said that he has every right not to pay for the feta and the steak and that the waiter should clear the matter with his manager. They eventually reduced the bill and the waiter actually said that we should be more polite. My boyfriend responded that he comes from Greece and lives in England and he has never had such a terrible service, to which the waiter, instead of apologizing for this whole evening, responded “Well my friend, here it’s Greece not England”. I am putting one star just because I can’t put 0. I wouldn’t recommend this...
Read moreArchantoula is a must-visit restaurant in Milos for anyone seeking an authentic Greek dining experience. Located in Plaka, this family-run taverna offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere that perfectly complements its delicious menu.
The food at Archantoula is exceptional, with traditional Greek dishes made from fresh, local ingredients.
Standout plates include seafood pasta and I’ve eaten Thai a lot across the globe and this one rates right up amongst the best. Their fried zucchini was delicious, simple, but tasty and the fried meatballs and chips are a great basic dish, crispy on the outside, soft and tasty full of flavour and the Dakota salad is right up there, the cheese soft, creamy and extremely tasty with beautiful Greek local tomatoes.
We opted for the local Greek house wine 500 ml which never disappoints when in Greece.
Meeting the mother of the owner, listening to her story and how the business started and the vision the daughter showed to expand is a tremendous success story that should not be understated, well done to all for a terrific experience and first night dining experience in Milos.
The service was friendly and attentive, print, making you feel right at home, while the outdoor seating offers a lovely view of the bustling Plaka traffic .
Finally, p rices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and service.
Whether you're looking for a hearty meal after a day of exploring or a relaxing evening with local delicacies, Archantoula won’t disappoint. It's a hidden gem in Milos that captures the essence of Greek hospitality...
Read moreDisappointing, to say the least. In the Pasta with shrimps and ouzo, the shrimps still had their intestines and one was chewing little rocks in the bite. In the Mousaka we found a hair, disgusting. Besides these, the mojito was no cocktail. Don’t order cocktails, they taste like juice, barely any alcohol in there. Better order wines, like the Cretan (you’re in Milos ahah) wine in a carafe. Regarding taste, the kritamokeftedes could be a “hit”, but the mushy texture makes them more of a “miss”. The stuffed peppers are pickled peppers, not fresh grilled ones, just so you know what you will be getting if you order it. Of course no where was it said in the menu.. The pasta with shrimps and ouzo still needs work. It’s soaked in oil, besides the mistakes with the shrimps I mentioned.
In general, we appreciated the hard work and happy mood the waiters were trying to put in, but that’s not enough to run a restaurant when one has to wait 1-1.5 hours for starters to start arriving. It’s a sign of pure mismanagement, end of story. I am sorry…it’s a big no from me.
For the record, I should mention that the mousaka and shrimp pasta dishes were reimbursed as it’s a matter of unsanitary procedures, however the experience remains one of the most horrible dinners I have had in general. And it’s sad cause we tried the place seeing positive reviews for this..it’s disappointing. I really hope management takes this as advice for the sake of us, costumers, and the people there...
