Utopia Caffe — Restaurant in Municipality of Milos

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. I’m writing to express deep disappointment with the experience my partner and I had at Utopia Café in Milos on the evening of July 16th, which was meant to be a special celebration for our one-year anniversary — and our last night on the island.

Like many travelers, we were drawn to your café by its glowing social media presence and reputation for breathtaking sunset views. We arrived around 7:45 PM, hoping to enjoy the evening as countless visitors before us have. Instead, what unfolded was unprofessional and frankly absurd.

Upon arrival, we were told by the host that the café was “closing for sunset” and that we should come back at 9:00 PM — at which point we would be first in line. First of all, why would an establishment famous for sunset views close during sunset? Regardless, we trusted the staff and returned promptly at 9:00.

At that time, we were the second party to arrive, with only one family ahead of us and two women arriving after. The host brought the family to a table, and then the two women — who had quite literally cut in front of us by catching the host at the side door upon returning from seating the family— were immediately seated at the only available balcony table. When we pointed this out to the host (who remembered us from an hour prior), he shrugged and said he wasn’t “in charge of the line.”

With all due respect — what exactly is a host’s job, if not to manage the flow of guests and ensure fairness? We had waited over an hour, followed instructions, and still ended up turned away while others skipped the line and took the only available prime spot. There was absolutely no attempt made to rectify the situation, no apology, no accountability — just indifference.

It completely ruined our plans and soured what should have been a memorable anniversary evening. Fortunately, we were welcomed at Barrielo, where the staff treated us with genuine hospitality, seated us promptly, and gave us the beautiful dining experience we had hoped for at your establishment. I would recommend anyone who wants views and an amazing meal to choose this establishment over Utopia instead.

Utopia Café may have a great view, but unfortunately, our experience revealed a lack of basic courtesy and crowd management. I hope you take this feedback seriously and reflect on how situations like this are handled in the future — especially when guests are celebrating once-in-a-lifetime moments. What a disappointment and out of all of the places we ate at in Milos over the course of weeks, this was the absolute rudest that we were...

Beautiful view and nice setting, but the experience was soured by the behavior of the hostess. We arrived after the sunset and we initially asked to sit at a front table that had just been vacated by a group of four, but were told it was “only for larger groups” — fair enough. So we sat in the back row instead. Just five minutes later, two guests were seated at the very table we had requested. We asked again to move to another 2-person table that had opened up right in front of us, and were told no due to a no table change “policy by the owner.”

As someone from Greece who has also lived in the U.S. and two other European cities, I’ve never encountered this kind of inflexible and inconsistent seating policy — especially in a place that presents itself as a relaxed café bar. We chose to finish our drinks and leave, and next time, we’ll be taking our business elsewhere.

Great view, disappointing...

We visited Utopia on July 25th around 7:30 PM. At that time, the venue was fully booked, and the staff at the entrance kindly suggested an alternative spot just a one-minute walk away, offering the same breathtaking view. He was very helpful and advised us to return a bit later when a table would likely become available.

We came back around 9:00 PM and were immediately seated at a front table with an incredible view. We ordered two Aperol Spritz, which were perfectly made and very refreshing. We also had the pleasure of meeting Andreas, who was extremely polite and welcoming.

The overall atmosphere was excellent, and the view is truly one of a kind. If we could suggest one small improvement, it would be to add a few fans in the outdoor area, as it was quite warm at that hour.
