Rollercoaster experience in this restaurant.
We decided to pass by there on a Monday evening due to the very high rating reviews. Upon arrival, we saw a small line forming, and it quickly built up behind us. That alone was a sign that the place is good and we were very excited about it!
The owner came and checked who’s first and offered wine, cheese, olives and, I think, chicken breast. It was all very good and she was very nice. More points to the establishment!
Within 15-20 minutes, we got our table. Sitting and observing the atmosphere, it was quite nice. I believe most waiters are from the family and the place is family run. One waiter came and picked our orders. We started with a Greek salad and a grilled feta cheese. Both were really good and we were super happy and looking forward to the main courses!
After this moment, all good things started to fall apart. We had to wait around 45 minutes to get our dishes. The line in front was getting huge, and waiters were going all over the place, it seemed chaotic. When our food finally arrived, it arrived 3-5 minutes apart one from the other.
The first dish we received, a Moussaka, was lukewarm and not very memorable regarding the taste. It was passable but definitely not what we expected. Plus we had to wait the next dishes and it got cold by the time the others arrived.
The next one (after 5 min), a chicken portion. This one was tasty, but not consistent. A few parts were salted, others not. A few were very dry, others were ok. French fries seemed from a frozen pack. Overall, also passable.
Then, the crown of the night: lamb chops. It was all covered in french fries, so I couldn’t see at first how it was. The first piece I had had multiple small hard pieces, which I soon realized were shattered bones! The reason? The meat was charred, straight from a volcano. It was unrecognisable what was ‘meat’, what was bone, what was fat. Everything became a hard, black mess. For the first time in my life, I had to refuse a dish. I sent back, the waiter asked if I wanted something else, but he didn’t seem to care that much on solving the issue. We later received a complimentary dessert which was actually very good.
Upon payment, I realized they did not remove the lamb chops from the bill. I had to go through the very uncomfortable process of complaining about it again, this time to the owner herself. She is really nice, but told me she committed a mistake in serving that, while at the same time telling me thats how people in Milos make the lamb. Im sorry, but that was totally not edible. She apologised nonetheless and removed it from the bill.
Overall, I’m really sad with what happened. Workers are very nice and I really wish it was good. However, it was by far my worst food experience in Greece, both in terms of service and food itself. They must improve absurdly the food quality, the size of the kitchen to handle the number of customers, and also their customer service. You need to try to solve as much as possible the issue, and not let the client complain about it in vain, twice, without any real effort to solve the problem. I also think more workers, perhaps a senior waiter, would make the service faster. I really hope they manage to increase the quality of the place to reflect the number of customers. For now, it’s not...
Read moreOur table was hastily set with just a table cloth and no napkins or condiments. The Greek salad was not good. (Mostly tomatoes and feta cheese and not much else!) A busy restaurant with good quality grilled food but service was very slow. As a tourist with limited time on the island I cannot say I would recommend this place unless you are looking for one of the longest dining experiences of your life! We were trying to attract the attention of the staff for about 40 minutes to get the bill! We actually could have just left and I don't think they would have even noticed! Eventually we had to wave at them and then stand up and go inside to pay. This would be fine if we were shown the way in but we just had to guess and make our way inside to the register! This may be normal in Greece to a certain extent but the average foreign tourists won't be aware of it.
Maybe we just arrived at the restaurant on a bad night since all of the other reviews seem so positive! The staff were reasonably nice whenever they did come over, but mostly it seemed to us that they had little time for their customers. Overall we were under-awed by their service and would sooner go somewhere where we felt more appreciated. ☹️
They could also make more money if they checked on tables to see if anyone wanted more drinks, etc. Or perhaps we should have stood up and waved...
Read moreA restaurant I have known for years. Because it is not expensive and good, there is a lot of clients. In front of that : just one waiter to take the orders, one to bring plates, one person in the kitchen for the grill etc...Be prepared to wait way too long between plates. This time, the waiter made a mistake: one of us did not have anything to eat after 40 minutes after the salads were served...We understand mistakes happen. I became very annoyed by the fact that the owner did not, by herself, offer something (the wine or one plate ?) to compensate us for the endless wait of my father who is 80 years old. He did not eat anything except some salad. To my surprised, upon paying, the owner gave me attitude ("ok so we just made one mistake") I am very disappointed by her reaction. This made me very very angry. More than the mistake of the waiter. The owner could have suggested a solution "we offer you the wine because we are sorry" for exemple. But nothing. It's not about money. it's about service. Be prepared to wait and then, wait again and again. We will not set foot there again. There are other very good restaurants in Milos like Iliovasilema, or my friend Archontoula. The service...
