We went last night and had dinner for two. We were seated promptly. The restaurant is very nice and situated between the sea and the main road. If there is lots of traffic, it can be noisy, but it was nice while we were there (honestly, this is the case for any restaurant on the island). The wait staff were very friendly but difficult to flag down at times.
We ordered two starters, two mains, and a bottle of wine. The sommelier came to take my wine order again. The wine was an inexpensive one, but very nice.
We received a complimentary starter, which was some small portions of bread and an onion topping, which was good. The starters we ordered arrived, which were bread and tzatziki, both very nice! The tzatziki was different from others I've had as it was a little sour due to additional vinegar, but I really enjoyed it. The bread was a selection of a few different breads, which was nice.
The mains arrived shortly after we finished the starters. Chicken breast with seasonal vegetables and grilled, cheese-stuffed squid on squid-ink orzo. The chicken breast was nicely cooked and had a nice sauce with it. The squid was a major letdown, however. The squidink in the orzo died my tongue and lips black and made for a good laugh but was irritating to remove. The orzo tasted nice but was quite rich. The squid was delicious at first. However, the entire thing was FULL of very strong tasting cheese. I couldn't taste the squid at all, and even after removing all the cheese from the squid, I couldn't really stomach much more. The flavor was turned way way up all around, and I just couldn't enjoy it as i couldnt taste the squid at all. While I begrudgibgly ate the squid out of respect to the animal, I certainly couldn't finish the rest of it.
I've been harsher marking the food as a 1 star as I would have expected a higher quality seafood from this restaurant. This is by no means a cheap restaurant, and it presents itself as fine(ish) dining, so my expectations were high going in. Again, everything else we had was good, but the squid was a very...
Read moreWe recently dined at Nostos, a sea-side restaurant that boasts a stunning location and glowing reviews. With such a promising setting, we arrived with high expectations—but sadly, the experience didn’t live up to the hype.
The menu and pricing suggest a fine dining experience, but the quality of the food fell short. The grilled calamari, for example, was an odd mix of grilled and fried pieces—lacking the clean, smoky flavor that makes properly grilled seafood shine. The presentation and execution felt more akin to a casual takeaway than a refined coastal eatery.
Portions were noticeably small, which might be forgivable if the dishes delivered on flavor—but they didn’t. The chicken breast was especially disappointing: bland, dry, and tasting faintly of boiled spinach water. The cheese spread, advertised as a Greek selection, was closer in quality to a supermarket variety pack than anything artisanal or thoughtfully sourced.
To be fair, the service was genuinely lovely—attentive, polite, and welcoming—and the location is undeniably beautiful. However, these positives don’t make up for food that is overpriced and underwhelming.
In the end, Nostos feels like a textbook tourist trap: appealing from the outside, but lacking depth where it matters most. If you’re seeking authentic, high-quality Greek cuisine, you’d be far better off walking just a kilometre further. There, you’ll likely find a local taverna serving generous, flavorful dishes that live up to both their price and...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant during our time on Milos, as it was recommended as one of the better restaurants on the island by our hotel staff. We had made a reservation and were seated at a nice table right on the water. The setting is quite spectacular. We ordered some cocktails and wine and bread and olives while we perused the menu. For our dinner we selected the smoked cod, fresh fish of the day, and mussels. All meals were delicious. The smoke Cod was revealed beautifully with the smoke escaping from under a glass dome. My fresh fish was delicate and delightful, and the muscles my wife had were the best she had ever tasted. The service from the sommelier was excellent, and she recommended a crisp fruit forward local Greek wine that accompanied the meal perfectly. The only downside to our evening was the service from the wait staff. We were barely able to actually recognize who our server was, and the attention to detail was missing. An appetizer order was missed, and there was no checking in with the table on a regular basis by either the wait staff or management. We were informed by our hotel that there is a friendly competition between this restaurant and the restaurant next door, Mikros Apoplous as they both vie for first and second place in Milos. Although the food is excellent in both restaurants, Mostos will have to improve their service and attention to detail should they wish to rise to the...
