Meltemi Restaurant — Restaurant in Municipality of Naxos and the Lesser Cyclades

We went to this restaurant for brunch on our final day on the island. If we had known about it sooner, I'm sure we would have gone several times.

Everything we ate was completely and utterly delicious. Bread is served with a homemade olive tapenade from garlic homegrown green olives. It was so good we asked for more. The tzaziki was so fresh and flavourful. The mussel stew was very delicate and delicious. One of my favourite things was the fried Naxian gruyere. Chewy, hearty and almost sweet. When we returned home, I spent three days thinking about that cheese.

The owner and his staff are lovely people who will come have a nice chat with you and tell you the history of the restaurant. They were very generous, giving us a parting drink and fresh watermelon.

If we visit Naxos again, this is one of the places I'll be looking forward to eating at the most.

Wine and service were nice. Staff were polite and doing their best during a busy evening. We ordered stuffed tomatoes, a lamb in lemon sauce dish and their signature eggplant dish. All were tasty however the rice in the stuffed tomatoes was overcooked to mush and the lamb dish was barely warm when it should have been piping hot. The lemon sauce was overthickened and a bit gluey. It had good flavours and the meat was beautifully tender but the meal would have been so much better if it was hot. It was a turnoff when my first bite was literally on the cold side. Lemon potatoes should not be in a thickened sauce as they were a bit gluey as well. The eggplant dish was very tasty and temperature was on the warmer side so easier to enjoy but on the whole the experience was lackluster. With all the great choices here I won't...

During our first dinner there I had the stuffed tomatoes with rice and spices with potatoes appetizer for my main meal and a tomato and cucumber salad with olives capers and red onions. It was quite good. They had a few other vegan options on the menu including a roasted vegetable dish(Briam), roasted eggplants and many salads. However, I gave 3 stars instead of 4 because tonight we got take away since my husband was sick and ordered the green salad, which was great, ( should have gotten two) and the rocket Parmesan salad and when we got home the "rocket Parmesan salad" was boiled unseasoned greens" . I assume the put the wrong order in the bag as it was supposed to contain lettuce, Parmesan, sundried tomatoes, croutons, olives, capers, and balsamic.
