"Seven Brothers" Tavern is one of those places in Rethymno that carry the spirit of traditional Cretan cuisine and true hospitality. If you're looking for an authentic experience, this is the place to find it. I wholeheartedly recommend this cozy tavern located in the heart of the old town, which not only offers amazing food, but also an atmosphere that will make you feel like part of the family.
The menu is a treasure trove of local specialties – start with crispy courgettes or "dacos" topped with local sheep's cheese and fresh tomatoes. Then continue with classic dishes such as lamb "kleftiko", prepared according to an old recipe, or moussaka, which is unique here - with perfectly balanced aromas and textures.
Don't forget the seafood too – the fish is always fresh, and the squid and prawns are prepared in a way that only Cretans know. Accompany all this with a glass of local wine or ouzo, which will accompany you throughout the culinary journey.
And the best part? The service is warm and personal – the owners and staff will make sure your every wish is met, and after dinner they might even invite you to sit with them for a glass of brandy and some interesting stories about the island.
If you are looking for a place that combines the best food with authentic Cretan culture and soul, Seven Brothers Tavern is the right place that I...
Read moreWe fancied fish / seafood this Friday night ( perhaps a mistake ) and came down to waterfront area… the first few restaurants the owners / staff jump on you, like flies if u even look at restaurant or menu… at the 1/2 way point that stops, we decided Zefyros unfortunately they were fully booked so came here… prices higher than several places but you pay for location… Service good and efficient which was a positive, menu read well another positive… I had sea bass carpaccio, my wife fish soup, both flavourful, although carpaccio a little on the sml side, portion size… the bread and tapenade was complementary and nice… However my bbq fish, pickled fresh from ice fridge/counter was slightly underwhelming and steamed broccoli not necessary, hand made chips sml portion… over all slightly disappointing… fish looked bigger raw than cooked, I was still hungry, carafe of wine was nice… Disappointed with desserts, there’d Sold out off everything except for 2 cheese based things…. At least we got complimentary ouzo and some Turkish sweet petit four… Then came the bill which we had a heart attack three times as much as what we paid in the area where hotel is down the coast at Adelianos Kampos Anyway overall good service but portions...
Read moreI dined at Seven Brothers restaurant in the Rethymnon harbor, and initially, we were greeted by friendly staff, which left us in high spirits, thinking we had found the ideal restaurant for the evening. We had planned to take our time and enjoy a 3-4 course meal. Unfortunately, we only made it past the starter.
For our first course, we ordered garlic bread and gyros. As for the second course, I wanted grilled vegetables. Regrettably, the waitress informed me that it was currently not possible as the grill was occupied with fish. It seemed like they were eager to sell the freshly caught fish from the display at very high prices, which wasn't what we had in mind. We just wanted to enjoy some grilled vegetables, but it felt like they wanted to get us out of there as quickly as possible to free up the expensive waterfront seats. What a shame. The service was friendly, but the overall experience was rather average, and it left us feeling like typical tourist...
