The best restaurant in Rethymno.
It's the only restaurant with no people in front of the door annoyingly trying to get you in, because they don't need it.
The food was exceptional.
First off we had a nice white wine they always recommend, it was a nice half sweet wine, with a lot of citrus tones.
As a starter I had the calamari which was one of the freshest and best tasting soft calamari I've ever had. There was very little batter on the calamari itself and it was perfectly fried for a short period.
As a main I asked for the catch of the day, this was swordfish. The swordfish had a sort of mustard dressing over it which complimented the fish very well, once again cooked to perfection on the grill. It came with some potatoes, pepers and courgette all from the grill.
After the main they serve you a small lemon ice cream to prevent you from feeling too full.
Then as a dessert they brought us a beautiful plate with two scoops of vanilla ice cream with some baklava, once again beautiful flavours.
When we were done and asked for the bill they came with some raki as is common, but this was the best raki I drank in Crete.
The service was very good, he was very attentive and just a look was enough to catch his attention.
The atmosphere was very good, the terrace is beautiful in the Greek blue colours and the seats are comfortable, also most of the tables are reserved which keeps away most of the tourists that you wouldn't want there to spoil a romantic evening.
If you love fish and want a beautiful view for an affordable price, this is the place. Don't forget to make your reservation, because there's a high chance they're...
Read moreI would definitely recommend booking in advance. This place was packed, but luckily there was one table left at which a family of four could sit. The view from this place over the marina is also lovely!
The service here is excellent. It's a family-run restaurant, and the waiters were speaking different languages to people, which was good to see. He assured us he'd make us a larger salad for free since we said we'd pay extra for one, which was very nice! Service was of a perfect speed, too.
The Greek salad was quite large and made well. I would have liked to have our own oil and vinegar to season it though, because they made it for you.
I ordered the grilled swordfish. The flavour of it, although simple, was fantastic. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The potato it came with was also nice, and again simple. I'd have liked larger portion sizes - the sword fish was a good amount, but more vegetables or maybe some rice would be good. Everyone else on our table had similar reviews - very tasty food, but would have liked more on the plate.
We were offered a choice of fruit salad, lemon sorbet or some other options for free, which was really nice. We were also given free Rake with our bill.
Overall, a fantastic restaurant with very good service and excellent flavours. However, for the price, I think we'd deserve more food on the plate.
Thank you to the staff there. Would...
Read moreBest taverna on the harbour! We visited Zefyros Taverna and it is by far the best on the water with a view. We hadn't made a reservation, so we couldn't get a table that was on the edge if the water, but we're last minute kind of people anyway and it didn't change the taste of the food.
They don't have a Maitre'D outside trying to grab you by the shoulders to sit down at their restaurant like everyone else.... they're so good they don't need one.
It is definitely a family run taverna. The son was a zerver, the dad was inside tinkering around and came out every once in awhile.
The food: Get the haloumi appetizer! It was sliced and grilled in between slices of plump, ripe tomatoes and drizzled with a homemade honey mustard sauce. The Dakos was okay, not the best. People come to this taverna for fish, not salads.. lesson learned. The sea brim was the star of the evening, a freshly fileted white fish served with the head on the side, potatoes and lemon and olive oil. My husband couldn't stop eating off my plate. He ordered the King Prawns Zefyros (king prawns flame with ouzo, rice and cream sauce) , which he said it was delicious, but he was jealous of my fish. We were finishing off the meal off with a few shots of Ouzo and the house yogurt until I felt like people were...
