Extremely good Italian food in a tiny shop which somehow manages to magically fit a wood fired oven. I opted for the vegan option (both salentina and pizza) while my girlfriend opted for the prosciutto salentina. The owners/servers are extremely gracious to explain the menu in spite of the rush at the restaurant and it's commendable that they managed to keep the waiting time low in spite of the high amount of takeaways and the seats being full. They're also open to suggestions and criticism which is quite good to see because this means that the brand looks to improve even further. As for the food, we really loved it. The bread for the salentina is one to die for, lovely garlic shades on the inside which really add to the softness of the cooked dough. The pizza was also exquisite with a perfectly cooked dough- something rare to find outside of Italy. The food goes really well with some lemonade (cold drink, mot freshly made). The food is quite healthy for street food (although I wouldn't call it extremely healthy food) due to the generous amounts of fresh vegetables, greens & low (or no) amounts of...
Read moreThis is one of, if not the best street food shops i have ever tried in Thessaloniki. Salento has an italian inspired cuisine made of sandwiches (Salentinas) and pizzas. They bake the bread of the Salentinas/pizzas in front of you in a kiln plus they make everything they can themselves except the BBQ sauce nevertheless it still tastes phenomenal.
For greek standards it may look expensive at first glance but rest assured you get full with just one and i have a big apetite so trust me, it is well worth it. . I personally recommend the ceasars and pulled pork salentinas, have not tried the pizzas yet but my friends (who i recommended them this place) did and they were not dissapointed.
One minor inconvenience is that you have to go there to buy something to eat from Salento since they (at the moment of this review) do not support delivery yet, neither are they in a platform like Wolt, or e-food.
All in all Salento opened in an unfortunate situation/location. It does not get the exposure it deserves, and with COVID-19 their well deserved growth is bottlenecked.. for now at least.

Read moreWe thought we knew where the best Italian pizzas and food was outside of Italy (in Paris), but now we’ve found a real rival. We had the salentinas and pizza and loved it all. Why is it so good? Excellent food (no heating, reheating, just that huge oven in the middle of this small place, fresh ingredients and that’s it Excellent service (they really try to make your experience perfect - we even heard a couple tell about some sauce they didn’t like and they listened to them, said they would try and even joked that they would name is as their name should it get on the menu. This is what I call great and professional service! Fast service
All in all, we just loved it. One salentina can already fill you up well, but it was so good that my boyfriend and I managed to eat a pizza between the both of us too :p At 19:10 there were still seats but by 19:30 all seats were gone and you’d have to wait 10 minutes (so still feasible). Also it’s easy to take away. PS: it’s not only for tourists! ;) We heard quite a few Greek families and people...
