A dream! Service is only topped by the taste! And there are gluten free options. When asked about gluten awareness the waitress immediately reacted aware and told me that she would talk to the kitchen to make sure what's gluten free. She then recommended me three of the main courses. I had the Hunkar Beyendi and some tzatziki. The Hunkar Beyendi was a true delight to my taste budds. The meat was tender. The seasoning just right and fulfilling. The base of the meal was an egg plant puree. Normally I don't like egg plant. But the puree was a true revelation. Additionally I ordered some tzatziki that refreshed me after a hot day. Also very tasty and not too intense but balanced perfectly. If you like Raki also have one like me. Now comes the surprise: When I was finished with the main course I took a break and sunk into thoughts. Thoughts about how wonderful a dessert would be. And out of a sudden the waitress stood in front of me with some Greek joghurt with honey and walnuts. A special greeting from the kitchen who wanted to let m know that this was their only gluten free dessert. They read my mind! Special thanks to the waitress who welcomed me so warmly that I felt like I met a cousin who I didn't see in a while. She always wore a smile that made me enjoy my holiday even much more. Also thanks to the rest of the staff that made sure I was feeling great and am served. Actually it was the fastest I was ever served my food at a restaurant. I could really feel that everyone here works as a family - that's what the waitress told me with great enthusiasm. And I could see it in every little detail. Kanoula is a restaurant that you leave with a happy lightness. Thank you all so much! Disclaimer: I'm a symptomatic gluten sensitive. Even for the smallest traces. And I had no symptoms at all. So it's an absolutely safe place.

We are staying in Thessaloniki for 4 days and we have been to this place twice already, if this tells you anything about how much we enjoy the food! First time we went for lunch when we were wandering in the neighborhood and looking for a good restaurant and happened upon this place. Second time we made a reservation and came back to have dinner. Everything we had is so delicious and the dishes are well designed and exceptionally executed. Overall the two times we ate here, our favourites were grilled meatballs and lamb meatballs with tomato and yogurt sauces. The meatballs were so flavorful, fluffy, and juicy. Some of the best meatballs I have ever put in my mouth. The shrimp saganaki we got both times, incredible. Simply, a must get. The tomato and feta sauce is amazing, great also with bread. We also got the moussaka both times. It is the best moussaka i have ever had. It’s fluffy, flavourful, filled with meats and eggplant layers. The perfect bites. Other dishes we recommend are grilled wild mushroom, sautéed mushroom with garlic white wine sauce, “its” pilaf with chicken liver. The service is very good with friendly servers. The atmosphere is nice and cozy. Definitely don’t miss this place if you are visiting!

This place is very, very good by Thessaloniki standards (which are very high). It is a small, family owned, unpretentious place in a small lane very close to the Ministry of Macedonia. You feel welcome as soon as you step in. There are a few local beers to choose from, as well as reasonable house wine. The food is excellent! We had perfectly cooked lamb, the gaminess balanced by Israeli couscous and apricots and a wonderful salad with walnuts, cranberries, poached peaches and balsamic vinegar. The chef (and one of the owners) is an unassuming, sweet lady who comes out and greets you, asks about the food, making you feel at home. The place is very small, make reservations, especially for dinner. Went to the place a second time. Food was just as good. The chef knows how to use simple ingredients to highlight the flavor of the principal, whether it is pork with dried plums and a hint of rosemary or mushrooms in a simple cream and wine sauce. The dishes are always perfectly cooked.

I ordered the linguini with shrimp and mussels, though I requested the mussels be left out. To my delight, not only did they accommodate my request without any fuss, but they also gave me a €2 discount for omitting the mussels. Such thoughtful customer service is rare and greatly appreciated. Despite being in a hurry, the waitstaff ensured that our meal was served quickly without compromising on quality. The linguini was perfectly cooked, the shrimp were succulent, and the portion size was more than generous. It was a truly satisfying meal. As we finished, the waitress informed us that dessert was complimentary. Unfortunately, due to our time constraints, we had to decline. However, she kindly insisted multiple times, showing genuine care and hospitality. I highly recommend this restaurant for its delicious food, swift service, and friendly staff. It's a gem worth visiting, whether you're in a rush or looking for a leisurely dining experience. Highly recommended 😍

I was curios to see why Kanoula is the best restaurant in Thessaloniki, so I found today the small street of Raktivan, at number 8, where is located. I found a small restaurant, very small, but with a big heart! So, if you have high standards regarding how a real restaurant looks, you have to dare to discover some amazing tastes, different than others. The recipes are from the owners grandma's, so the art of plating is missing, but you'll forget all of your standards at the first bite. The shrimp saganaki wasn't the best one in Greece, but the lamb... made with orange juice, honey, couscous and dry apricots was divine... Also the beef, made in red wine and paired with eggplant puree, ugly delicious! So, forget Michelin standards, go there and ask them to recommend their best food of the day. It will be mind blowing and rich and deep in flavours. This is not a meal, or a food, this is an epic experience! Thank You!

We came here 3 times and everything we tried was delicious. We had Slow Cooked lamb with orzo, Greek salad, stuffed mushrooms, veal T bone, Hugiard Beyendy (slow cooked beef with aubergine purée) green leaf salad with peaches, Moussaka, bouyiourdi, dolmades and Feta me meli (feta baked in phyllo pastry with honey) washed down with 1 litre (ves a litre!) of their house Merlot which is only €10!!! Anything that’s on the specials board you must try, very reasonable prices too! We booked each time as it gets very busy, but the lovely staff are very attentive and helpful, and I saw people just turning up and they just found more tables and carried them out onto the street. Even when it was very busy you were never rushed and could spend hours just grazing. A resounding 10 out of 10!
