During my visit to Thessaloniki, I had the delightful opportunity to dine at Taverna O Thodoros, a place that might just offer the best dining experience in the city. Nestled in a cozy corner of Thessaloniki, this taverna captures the essence of Greek hospitality and culinary excellence.
The standout dish for me was unquestionably the souvlaki with fries. The souvlaki was perfectly grilled, juicy and flavorful, paired exquisitely with golden, crispy fries. Every bite was a taste of Greek culinary tradition at its finest, leaving me absolutely enthralled by the simplicity yet perfection of the dish.
Alongside the souvlaki, I enjoyed a plate of grilled vegetables including zucchini, tomatoes, and mushrooms, all drizzled with a delectable sauce that enhanced the natural flavors of the vegetables. This dish was a brilliant showcase of the freshness and quality of the ingredients used at Taverna O Thodoros.
No Greek meal would be complete without tzatziki, and the version served here was creamy, garlicky, and refreshing—a perfect complement to both the souvlaki and the grilled vegetables. The great wine selection available also enhanced the meal, with the staff providing excellent recommendations that paired beautifully with the food.
The service at Taverna O Thodoros was exceptional. The staff were not only friendly but also genuinely helpful, making us feel welcome and well cared for throughout the meal. To top off an already fantastic dining experience, we were surprised with two delicious desserts after our meal, which were on the house. This gesture was the perfect end to our evening, leaving us with a sweet taste and fond memories.
Taverna O Thodoros is a must-visit for anyone wanting to dive deep into the heart of Greek cuisine. With its delightful food, excellent wine, and unmatched Greek hospitality, it stands out as a gem in Thessaloniki's culinary scene. Whether you're a local or a visitor, make sure to stop by for a meal that you will surely remember as one of your...
Read moreOff the tourist track but totally worth it. Here you go if you want to have the true Greek neighbourhood family tavern experience. Tables on the side walk (also inside of course), the passing neighbors stop for a small chat and the music is traditional Greek. The conversation of just two workers at the next table culminates in a very loud discussion between 6 customers and 3 staff where the new bus stop has moved to ("oxi re, malakka!"). This is Greece and you gotta love it. Food is excellent. Traditional tavern dishes at its best. Ask about the days' special. Of course the sweet is on the house. Prices very fair. Service: polite, flexible and corona proof. "Thodoros Taverna" is a mirror showing one of the social pillars of closeknit Greek society: the...
Read moreUnfortunately there were some inconveniences during our visit, but all-in-all a good restaurant with quality food.
The waiters kinda forgot that we are present, so we had to wait around 40 minutes to make our order. 20-30 minutes after placing the order they said that one of our choices is not available. Anyway, things like this do happen and all the staff members we encountered were really kind, but late in the evening it was a bit unfortunate to wait much and after that not have the selected meal.
Regarding the food, we enjoyed everything - grilled mushrooms and the baked feta were especially delicious. Prices are also honest, so no complains about it. Good atmosphere, place...
