We ate lunch at Penelope's. For appetizer we took Fried Tomato Fritters, they were crispy and delicious. For main dishes we took Cycladic Pasta and Greek Meatballs. The pasta was pretty good, it had a delicious tomato sauce around it and some feta cheese on top of it. The Greek meatballs was good too, very tender meat (would've loved if it had a little bit more salt doe) and the tomato sauce combined with feta cheese and cut up fries made the dish complete (bit overpriced since I paid 19,50€ for 5 meatballs).
I'm giving it 3* because we had a "bad" encounter with the customer service there. Basically the place was packed and we had to wait for 15 minutes to be seated on the table (we just went to the first table that was freed). And another 15 min for our orders to be taken. After we were finished with the food, we asked for our check but there was none to be seen for 20 minutes (note that sll of this happened because there was only 1 waiter the whole time we were there, male, absolutely lovely guy) so we had to personally go search for free staff downstairs to get our check (found a woman). After making the payment she asked if we would like to tip and we said no because we didn't feel like it since the wait times made it very unpleasant. Then she started to guilt trip us to try to get us to give them tips and overall left a bad taste in our mouth.
Overall pretty good food so recommend to visit if you're sightseeing in Pyrgos and don't mind...
Read moreWhilst the view is lovely, I couldn’t say the same about the food. This was our second night in Santorini and we will not be going back. Our table was plunged into darkness as the light was not working. We were handed menus when we arrived but was a further 20 minutes before the came back to even take a drink order. She mentioned no lighting and said she would get a candle. We had ordered 4 dishes of Meze and knew these came out a different times. First dish was fava. Actually quite nice but no accompanying pitta/bread. There was as no option of this so we assumed it came with it. It didn’t. We asked, but no pitta only bread. The candle appeared after the second dish of sausage. This was just about edible, but the potatoes were extremely salty. My husband couldn’t eat them. The meatballs were dry and served with tzatziki, we ate 2 out of 8. There are loads of stray cats around the town asking for food. I gave half a meatball to a stray cat, who didn’t like it either and left it! The tomato fritters were completely in edible. We took one bite and left all of them. I could only taste raw flour from the roux. The margarita was good, but the aperol spritz was just aperol and soda with so much ice it just tasted of water by the time it was half full. It was fairly expensive for what it was, especially in comparison to the meal the night before which was the same price...
Read moreWe ate here three nights ago. We were a party of nine and I had called to make a reservation. We relied on Google for directions and ended up getting incorrectly navigated as it was asking us to drive our cars on pedestrian walkways. I called to inform of our lateness. The hostess explained how there was no reservation and was going to try her best. Ok. Things happen.
We finally make it to the restaurant. The waitress greeted us and sat us at a table with a view. We ordered our food and all was well. Now, not going to lie, the food was real good.
The bad taste came at the end when we asked for the bill and the owner came out to tell us, that her credit card machine was down and that we could PayPal her or wire money directly to her bank account if we didn’t have the cash. Last I checked, PayPal requires internet to be successful as does the credit card machine. If your credit card machine truly wasn’t working, why not tell us before we sit? Some may say, what’s the big deal? Well, it’s quite often I am in Greece and the credit machine “doesn’t work.” In short it’s a way to avoid paying taxes on the bill of sale. It is also unfair to the customer to scramble to pay in cash when you...
