Don't let the appearance of this place fool you, it may not be as fancy as some of the other restaurants surrounding it however this is a hidden gem on this part of the island. We stumbled across Skaros purely because it was seconds away from our hotel and the views we could get from dining here made it our first choice. Relatively quiet and intimate we walked in to be greeted straight away, our table was dressed with its cloth and instantly we were asked what drinks we would like whilst we perused the menu.
Their cocktail selection is fairly basic with not many to choose from but again, we wanted good food so I ordered a screwdriver cocktail and then proceeded on with my choices.
We jumped straight into the main courses and this was without a doubt one of the best dishes I had on my holiday. I ordered the salmon linguini which tasted phenomenal. The fish was fresh, flaky and flavoursome, accompanied by perfectly cooked pasta and a delicious sauce and little orange balls, I dug right in. I couldn't help but rave to my partner over how good my choice was. He ordered the steak which again was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth however he was still envious of my main.
Following this we decided to get desserts despite being very full. Now this is the downside, unfortunately I had some cardboard paper attached to my chocolate pudding which I did inform the water on but I feel it was lost in translation as he couldn't quite understand what I was saying. This showed that the desserts aren't fresh like the mains but this was the only real fault I could give. I can forgive the lack of drinks choice but this was a negative on the meal hence only 4*.
But I can't help but still think, 2 weeks after my holiday, just how good the salmon linguini was. I tried salmon at another restaurant close by and it didn't hold a candle to Skaros.
So if you want scenic views and fresh fish dishes with friendly staff then this is the...
Read moreIf I could give this place a zero I would. My wife and I decided to give Skaros a shot based on the menu, the restaurant was completely empty, not one person inside, so we tried to be nice and give them some customers. I ordered the souvlaki and my wife had the pargos (snapper). After 45mins of waiting we queried the waiter on the food, he said it would be out in 5 mins. 15 mins later we asked him again and again he said 5 mins without actually checking first, so I asked him to check (it took a few times to get him to do it), and a couple of mins later there was a HUGE argument in the kitchen. Food came and credit where it's due the rice with the dish was good. The meat wasn't, it was very overcooked, dry and chewy. My wife's fish was watery like it had been frozen (they insisted it was fresh), lacked flavour and left an unpleasant after taste. Both dishes very over priced. Staff (5 of them for the 2 of us) were talking loudly throughout the seating which doesn't make for a good atmosphere. We couldn't finish the food and when we mentioned to the waiter that we weren't happy to pay full price (normal in our country) the first thing the (non English speaking) manager said was they were going to call the police!! No messing around just straight to the cops. We argued back and forward, the manager made a very long phone call to "the police" who I don't think were actually police which was probably not good news for us at all. The biggest issue is there was no debate, no consolation offering from the restaurant for the poor food quality while they lied and said we finished all of it, and then straight to calling the police as their first response when we complained. It honestly baffles me that people have had good experiences at Skaros, we should have realised it was empty for a reason when nearby places had enough customers to keep them moving. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT as there are surely better...
Read moreWe were a little hesitant at first as the place seemed a bit on the quiet side compared to others in the area. However we are glad that we gave this restaurant a chance as we weren't disappointed. We had the appetiser for two and it could have fed four easily. Very traditional with grilled cheese, tomatoe balls, eggplant, tzatziki, fava, dolmades and the usual salad. Very tasty and if we'd have had room to finish it we would have but we had to save room for main course. Main course was for me the traditional lamb with potatoes and carrots cooked on a Dutch oven and the lamb was cooked to perfection, very tender and fell off the bone. My partner had a large grilled chicken fillet with seasoned fries and a side of bbq sauce. We were stuffed at this point but after a short rest break we decided to go ahead and have a desert. We both had the chocolate soufflé and it was magnificent. It's was like a mini volcano of chocolate lava served with a vanilla ice cream. It was heavenly. We then enjoyed a complimentary cherry liquor with crushed ice (adult slush puppy) it was rather refreshing. We would recommend this as a great place to eat especially if you have a large appetite as the portions are very generous. Great...
