We recently placed a takeaway order from Lemos Vougliagmeni Tavern by phone and walked over to pick it up. Just a heads-up for future visitors: they do not have an official menu available online, so we had to rely on food photos from reviews to decide what to order. Once we arrived, we noticed more options listed in person and ended up ordering a few additional items.
When we got there, only two people were dining in, which made us a little hesitant, but we decided to give it a fair try. The food was ready on time, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable compared to other places in the area.
We started with bread and oil, but unfortunately, the bread was very dry and extremely hard. It had been lightly toasted with just a swirl of oil on top. It came off more like a dry, crunchy snack than a proper starter, which was disappointing. The fried zucchini was soggy and quite oily. It was greasy enough that they had placed a napkin under it in the container to absorb the excess oil, which did not help much with the texture.
I ordered the vegan spaghetti Napolitano, which was fairly plain, though it became more enjoyable after adding some oregano. My daughter had her own portion and did the same. The chicken gyro came in a deconstructed format, with the meat, onions, tomatoes, and fries in one container, and two pitas wrapped separately in foil. Some people may like putting it together themselves to keep it fresh, while others may prefer it fully assembled and ready to eat. To each their own. The portion was just right for two, which we appreciated.
We also ordered a prasini salad, but what we received did not resemble the traditional version. It was full of cabbage, carrots, and olives. This made us wonder whether it was a mix-up or simply the tavern’s own variation of the dish.
Overall, the experience was okay, but not great. There is definitely room for improvement in terms of food quality, consistency, and making the full menu accessible online. With a few thoughtful changes, this could become a more reliable and enjoyable spot...
Read moreMy partner and I ate here in Sept 2023. We stumbled across it by accident. It was pretty empty, but not sure why because the food was absolutely delicious! We had the stuffed vine leaves, okra and halloumi-stuffed peppers as well as the chicken souvlaki - all absolutely lovely. Washed down by a couple of glasses of ridiculously well-priced wine! In a neighbourhood full of over-priced fancy restaurants, Lemos was a refreshing change. It may be simple, but if you want to support an authentic, family-run, amazingly good value and genuine establishment then look no further. Thank you Nikolas and family - you...
Read moreLovely garden setting but also beautiful inside. The owner told me it dated from World War 2.The Germans had it as a stables for their horses. It has been lovingly and sympathetically restored. Very clean. The fava was really good. The Mussels were served out of their shells. My Moussaka was super. The French fries that came with it were thin, and very tasty. The T Bone steak was thick, Cooked perfectly and succulent and very reasonable, again served with the lovely French fries. The house red wine was very good. Prices were...
