Best lunch we had on our multi island Cyclades trip. Our first meal off the ferry in Paros and beyond any expectations. Service was warm, friendly and attentive. The dip sampler was impeccable - among the favorites was the fava bean dip and the tarama. We ordered the barracuda and it was grilled to perfection - the fish slid off the bone and the skin had hints of herbs and seasoning. Salad with carob rusks well made. It was great surprise to find a local IPA (excellent, coming from California we get picky) that was a great complement. We were surprised with a complementary baklava that blew away any I have ever had - spiced, flaky, not overly syrupy. The owner and her family went above and beyond at all fronts. And an important bonus - the space itself is well shaded and overruning with plants, welcome refuge from the heat and channelling the breeze.
Sidenote - like anywhere else in the world if you are getting hyperfast service you are trading quality. This is an authentic tavern, family run and you can tell working extremely hard. Everything was clearly made to order so any relatively short wait...
Read moreMaybe it was an off night, but our experience was... bad. This place looked promising, so we waited in line, with 2 couples in front of us for at least 30 min before we sat. Ok, no big deal. However, the waiting continued. We gave ourselves about 3 hours for dinner before we had to catch the bus back to our hotel (basically 7pm-10pm). There were at least 4 other parties that were sat in the 30 min after us that got drinks and food well before us. At least 2 were eating before we even got a chance to order. The server was very nice, and if the food had been good, then I wouldn't be writing this review. But, it was not good. The grape leaves were the best thing we had and they were pretty good. The mussels were ok, calamari very chewy, and the lamb was meh at best. Nothing tasted fresh. The food was maybe a 6/10. We weren't able to get dessert bc by 9:50 we had to grab the check and catch our bus. Now I know dinner shouldn't be rushed, but 2 hours for 2 apps and 2 meals? Of the two weeks in Greece, this was one of two places that...
Read moreStopped here for a late lunch. Been traveling by ferry to get here. Delightful garden atmosphere with many plants and trees shading. Started with dolmas. These arrived still warm from their preparation. This had a warm olive oil sweatiness, not the sour vinger tartness that I am a custom to. The wife, expert on all things rice, stated that the rice was sticky rice cooked to perfection. Not the usual jasmine rice over cooked to starch. Next arrived her pork fillet cooked to tenderness, lite sprinkle with herbs. Sided with French fries hot from the oil, and a salad drizzled balsamic vinegar. Next my moussaka arrived popping hot from the oven. Not sliced from a cassoroll, and rewarmed. But prepared and baked to order. The flavor was rich with spices, eggplant and cheese baked on top. As I asked to pay they presented us with two delicate slices of a delightful lemon cake. Moist from a citrus drizzle. Humm perfect way to end this meal. Yes, I...
