WOW ……our 3rd visit ! Hellinikon in Skiathos Town is a true standout on the island’s dining scene, offering authentic Greek cuisine paired with warm hospitality. From the moment you arrive, the team makes you feel welcome, and the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between relaxed and vibrant.
The menu showcases traditional Greek dishes prepared with care and flair. The beef stifado is exceptional – slow-cooked, rich, and deeply flavorful – easily one of the highlights of the restaurant. The kleftiko is tender and aromatic, the souvlaki perfectly seasoned, and the fresh fish, filleted right at your table, is nothing short of outstanding. Each dish is generous, beautifully presented, and excellent value for money.
Hellinikon’s popularity is well deserved, so booking ahead is strongly recommended to secure a table. On select evenings, the experience is elevated further with live Greek music, creating a lively and memorable setting that captures the spirit of the island.
The service is another defining feature. The owner, instantly recognizable by her striking red bob haircut, is as gracious as she is stylish – warm, approachable, and genuinely passionate about her restaurant. The staff are equally attentive, bringing a sense of care and friendliness that makes the dining experience feel personal and special.
For visitors to Skiathos, Hellinikon is more than just a meal – it is a taste of Greek tradition delivered with charm and character. A restaurant that deserves a place at the top of any traveler’s list. We look forward to...
Read moreWe chose Hellinikon for the live music. By chance, the day before our reservation, we passed by the restaurant and noticed the fish display case.
We decided to choose grill sea bass (on the waiter's recommendation). As usual, we asked him what the price was for this dish (we didn't see it on the menu). He told us it was EUR75 and we asked him again to make sure it included the side dish.
He told us there were 2 types of fish he could bring. Seabass and another type of fish (we didn't understand very well because the live music was very loud). We only understood that he could bring us the raw fish to choose before it was cooked but that didn't happen.
At the end when I asked for the bill, the waiter made fun of me by telling me that he was bringing the bill with fish for EUR85. He wanted to make fun of me considering that I asked him twice what the price was for the EUR75 seabass. Ok, I tried to taste the joke even if it doesn't seem normal to me. It's my right to ask 10 questions if I want, especially in a foreign country where the gastronomy is different.
And don't let me hear the answer with "our experience and reputation built over time". If you have experience you should know how to treat a customer. And don't treat constructive comments with contempt.
The food was ok, but for the EUR75 I'm sure we could have chosen other dishes from the menu that would have been much tastier. The live music is really loud in our opinion. You can't understand each other in that small space. The guitarist walks among the tables with the hope of getting...
Read moreSometimes you eat somewhere on a recommendation from another restaurant & just end up unlucky. I'm giving them that grace even though they messed up almost every aspect of our order at every stage, despite some of us speaking passable Greek if not quite native level - not that it should matter in a touristic place like this. Wrong starters delivered (yet told we did order them), whole fresh snapper for the table completely missed (despite being challenged on not ordering one big enough for our table size of 4 adults & 2 children but we are not Greek size eaters!). They kept clearing our plates between dishes but failing to replace them so we could continue eating when the next dish arrived & no attempt at all to make good on their consistent mistakes. One mistake? Ok. Two? Hmmm. 3? Ok bad review time. We left hungry and disappointed after being there 2.5hrs waiting in a 80% full restaurant. At no stage did anyone come to check on us. I guess we were too patient waiting for our fish but the starters came so slowly we thought it was just busy in the kitchen. And I can already predict based on other diners reviews with a similar experience that it will be somehow put down to something we did wrong. The only positive was they brought the kids food quickly, and the few dishes we did get delivered (starters & salads) were consistently executed if not outstanding. Prices were reasonable. I'll put it down to a bad day but other reviews here suggest a pattern that needs attention by the owners instead of shifting blame to...
