Popeye's Restaurant — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

If you’re English or non Greek speaking, this place is intentionally ripping you off. We received English menus, I requested the Greek menu which the waiter was reluctant to do and had to ask if we were Greek (in Greek of course). When we received the Greek menus we discovered why. The Giovetsi price was different quite considerably, 8.95€ in the Greek menu, 12.95€ in the English menu. Kokkinisto (beef stew) was also 3€ more expensive. In other words expect every dish served to come at an extra cost purely because you are a tourist. Let’s just say it’s a tax. The sad thing is in 6 trips to Greece tallying over 18 months stay over 10 years, this is the first time we have EVER encountered this type of disgraceful and dishonest behaviour, for in the end was quite mediocre food. Funnily enough, we have come back to this restaurant after multiple visits in 2014 when last in Zakynthos. Never again! They had the audacity to charge the English menu prices even though we had witnessed the Greek menu price. We paid it to not make a fuss but definitely my advice would be there are honest, phenomenal Greeks right across the country including Zakynthos, and these shameful people don’t deserve your tourist dollar/pounds, or business! Visited here based on all the good reviews but left very disappointed, we arrived at 8pm as we were meeting other people by 9.30pm the service was very slow we had our starters after about 30 mins and then another 1 hour wait for our mains we ended up leaving the restaurant at 10pm. Popeye’s sits in the centre of Tsilivi and is a beacon of friendliness. We went for an evening meal where we got Madagascan Steak and Apple Cider Chicken; both of which were lovely.
