Tul Y Sol — Restaurant in Sololá

I am writing this review because I do not want anyone else to throw away their cash. This place was owned by some french guy that sold it to someone from Texas, according to the service personnel. My wife and I ordered nachos to start and they served us nachos from a bag (considering that in Guatemala you can get the best homemade tortillas in the world), with guacamole from a jar, black beans from a can, cheese from a bag and tomatoes from a jar as well. We were so hungry we ate it between my wife and I. I ordered a small onion soup that tasted (honestly) like salt water with julienne cut onions, it was horrible! We then received the rest of our order, chicken curry… The breast membrane was still in and the curry sauce was horrendous… I truly don’t remember what my wife ordered but neither of us ate even a 1/4 of the food. I do not know the owner and I have no bad blood against this person, Im just avoiding people throwing their money away. The place does NOT look like what it looks like in the pictures, all the plants are dead and the personnel is clearly unhappy. Aside from all this there is a white stray cat that was clearly starving and going from table to table and nearly got inside my plate, not that I would’ve had a problem with that considering how bad the food was… Does the place have potential? I would say yes but who knows what the logistical issue is here; either way this place is a BIG NO GO at this moment. Ah, the...

I rarely write negative reviews, but my recent experience warrants an exception. From the moment I entered, the staff member was inattentive, even though at the restaurant there were only 3 tables occupied. Upon requesting a menu, I was told that his hands were full, and I stated with a smile that I was willing to wait. While receiving the menu, I was seated at a table that was still dirty from the previous guests. I waited, hoping the table would be cleaned, but the employee instead began smoking in the middle of the restaurant. Then, I asked for a Wi-Fi password, hoping the employee would clean the table afterwards. However, after receiving the password, it became clear that the table would remain dirty. I decided to leave, as it felt disgusting and uncomfortable to be there, and I still thanked the employee. But upon my leaving, the employee accused me of only coming to use his Wi-Fi. My point is, if in case this person is the owner, there may be no point in this feedback, but if he is an employee, I hope his behaviour would...

Maybe I expected too much? Partner and I shared the mushroom spaghetti, which was very tasty. My strawberry daiquiri was a little too strong, but that may be a plus for some of you. A nice kitty and a local dog sat by us while we watched the lake. Again this might be a plus or minus for some of you.

I dinged the atmosphere here because while we were eating and having a conversation, one of the locals selling those bird trinkets spotted us, walked along the lake trail towards us, and walked up the stairs directly towards us to try and sell us some more trinkets. Now I don't mind these folks since it's a way of life for them and I respect that, but this timing was clearly inappropriate and makes me wonder how often folks get their meals interrupted by some salesman waiving souvenirs while you're trying to have a romantic time with...
