Happy Tacos needs to be upfront about their payment methods. We were not informed that they only accept cash, and when we paid in US Dollars, we received a much worse exchange rate than the actual one. It was clearly a tactic to take advantage of tourists. We ended up paying more than $30 extra, and it felt like they took advantage of our trust. The person at the restaurant, Mr. Gomez, asked us to leave the dollars with him, saying we could come back the next day to get our money and pay in Guatemalan quetzales. However, he later changed his mind and said, "No, I can’t, and I don’t care about your bad reviews because the restaurant is not mine." Our dinner should have cost around $30, but we ended up paying almost $60. I'm sorry, sir, but this behavior is just taking advantage of tourists' trust. Read moreWe spent 14 days in San Marcos and tried many restaurants until we discovered Happy Tacos and the wonderful owner Edwin. Definitely the best pizza in town, with a great atmosphere. We also loved the grilled chicken served with rice, black beans and guacamole. A really great experience all around.
We also hired Edwin, the very good dog Venus, and Edwin’s young friend to take the 5 of us on an 11 km hike from San Marcos to Santa Cruz. The hike was gorgeous and we felt well taken care of by our guides. I highly recommend the hike if you are somewhat fit and want to see 3 Atitlan communities on foot. The price is very reasonable and Edwin has a number of tougher hikes...
Read moreMUST TRY!!! The food here is exceptional. While known for their pizza, I personally got the chicken burrito—which was AMAZING!!! The chicken was fresh, tender, and well seasoned. The burrito was served with half an avocado, which was perfectly ripe and unexpected (zero extra cost). My boyfriend got the carbonara pizza, which he reluctantly let me try… because it was also fantastic and he wanted it for himself!!!! On top of the great food, the service was 12/10. Edwin, the owner, is the sweetest. Kind, attentive, and fun (great job chit chatting with us in English, which was so appreciated considering our Spanish isn’t perfect). Go...
