AUNTIE'S Korean Kitchen(이모네) — Restaurant in Budapest

We dropped in here in the middle of the day to grab some direly needed sustenance. The entrance leads down into the cellar and might need some maneuvering for bigger people. We were greeted and could pick our seat. The menu is quite extensive, although some choices were marked as unavailable.

Service is not attending at all times. Instead, you have a bell affixed to your table which you can use to make yourself heard.

The food was okay. All in our party liked it. It wasn’t overly spectacular, but it was good.

Drinks are available only from a fridge, so no tea or the likes.

A single restroom is hidden behind the curtain and around the corner.

The atmosphere was calm, since we were the only guests. There is a TV playing K-Pop, which the staff kindly turned off when we asked.

All things considered you can have a filling, decent meal for okay prices here. They also offer Korean barbecue, which might mean that you better wear clothes that can be washed easily...

I was impressed by Auntie's in the past but my last three visits were rather disappointing.

The chicken dishes are over flavoured (they are smothered with too much sauce) and most kimchee varieties are unavailable.

The rice is still very good but this being a Korean 🇰🇷 restaurant there is a lack of vegetables and most of the dishes are pork so unless you eat that you are limited to three dishes on the rather excessive menu.

There are better options around town but it is still a good choice if you want a quick meal in that...

Das koreanische Restaurant Aunties Korean Kitchen in Budapest liegt etwas abseits der Hauptstraße und hebt sich durch seine Lage im Untergeschoss eines charmanten Gewölbes hervor. Im oberen Bereich gibt es einen Takeaway-Service, während das eigentliche Lokal über eine Treppe ins Untergeschoss erreichbar ist. (siehe Bilder) Es bietet Platz für etwa acht Tische, an denen 25 bis 30 Gäste Platz finden.

Das vor zwei Jahren eröffnete Lokal hinterlässt einen durchschnittlichen Eindruck. Die Speisen sind lecker, der Service ist freundlich und aufmerksam, und die Mitarbeiter erklären die Speisekarte ausführlich. Auf jedem Tisch gibt es eine Klingel, mit der man die Bedienung rufen kann, was sehr praktisch ist. Standardmäßig stehen Metall-Chopsticks bereit, aber auf Wunsch werden auch Holz-Chopsticks zur Verfügung gestellt. Die Atmosphäre ist ruhig, und das Restaurant wird nur wenig besucht.

Ein klarer Minuspunkt ist jedoch die Preisgestaltung. Für zwei Gerichte und ein Getränk haben wir knapp 42 € bezahlt ca. 16.900 Forint !!! Dazu kommt, dass die Servicegebühr von 10 % nicht im Preis enthalten ist und extra berechnet wird. Dies empfanden wir für ungarische Verhältnisse als überteuert und unverhältnismäßig. Außerdem gibt es keine Parkplätze, und es wird keine Euro Barzahlung akzeptiert.

Fazit: Das Restaurant bietet solides Essen und einen netten Service, bleibt jedoch in seiner Gesamtheit durchschnittlich. Die überhöhten Preise und die zusätzliche Servicegebühr lassen das Lokal in einem weniger positiven Licht erscheinen. Daher können wir es nur bedingt weiterempfehlen und vergeben...
