Disappointing Experience Despite Friendly Service

I’ve been coming regularly to Budapest for over 20 years and have had some excellent dining experiences.

Unfortunately, this was one of the very few disappointing dining experiences I’ve had.

Within 2 minutes of my Camembert with rice starter arriving, my main course of fried rib with steak potatoes was also served.

The starter was cold and appeared to have been sitting around for a while. Completely unappetising and I returned it after just two bites when my main arrived.

Even if the starter was acceptable, I wasn’t given the opportunity to eat it with the main arriving almost simultaneously.

While the main course was fine, it was hard to enjoy given the poor start to the meal and the very smoky environment.

The waiter and the owner were very friendly, but I was still charged for the inedible, cold starter.

It’s a real shame because I always enjoy supporting local, family-run businesses, but after this experience I won’t...

I am never one to do this but this restaurant was REALLY bad! The food was borderline inedible. Genuinely would not be surprised if I found out it was roadkill. We waited over an hour just for our soups. The kitchens look dirty with food hygiene thrown out the window. Then they try to tell us we have to pay an obligatory service charge at the end and the Blonde waitress starts swearing at us and about her younger colleague (who was actually lovely) when we asked to remove it. Highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Budapest, especially after a visit to the thermal baths! The Service and Food were amazing! They serve a plethora of authentic Hungarian dishes, I got the pork medallions which I LOVED. Gabor (my server) was so nice and offered the rest recommendations. I also expressed to him how I was in a bit of rush and he had my food out quickly! He even gave me a free shot at the end of my meal 🥹.
