We specifically visited this restaurant through our experience from our last holiday in Budapest 4 years ago.
Here we're talking about a Michelin recommended place so certain mishaps are not acceptable unless rectified on the spot.
Part of the welcome was the plenty of items not available...but that's ok.... we're not fussy eaters so my son and myself chose from what was available.
We ordered our wine too. And by the way we poured and filled our glasses ourselves!! Not acceptable when one is specifically charged a service fee.
Our main courses consisted of a sturgeon fish....but was named trout upon serving it.....so at this point we're not sure what we were served.... we are Mediterranean so we don't eat river fish.. The fish was cooked fine but it took her last swimming experience in the sauces it was served in . The taste was very overwhelming and ruined the taste of the fish.
I had venison....and couldn't eat it because it was chewy and almost tough clearly because it was overcooked. I left the meat there....no questions asked why I didn't eat...I drew the attention of the server and she never referred my complaint to the kitchen... She stated that they never had any issues with the venison etc etc...
I went in for dinner but was never offered an alternative though I did not insist because at this point the only remedy the server offered was a free dessert.....
In normal circumstances one takes a dessert to finish the pallat on a sweet note. I didn't eat so how could I take her free dessert?! The reputation and name of this place definitely took a downhill.
We were charged to whatever we ordered and they didn't have the decency to deduct the cost of the food that was overcooked and not edible.
I wish someone from the management will take this comment seriously before I take my complaint...
Read moreThis place is far away from the city centre in the Buda side of Budapest, nearby the Fisherman's Bastion and we went there solely based on recommendations from from a site. It's tucked away in an isolated street but don't back away! Their food will pleasantly surprise you! This place is great for couples, friends as well as groups.
So our server was a very kind lady and helped us in selecting the best dish i.e. one appetiser and a wine based on our preference. Based on her recommendations we had "Foie gras ganache, quince, cinnamon & pistachio" and the "St. Andrea ÖRÖKKÉ 2017 Eger" wine. If you like fruity white wines please try it! It's absolutely amazing which is why I went ahead and saved the name!
Based on our selection we had chicken soup which wasn't upto the mark as in it smelled a little and the soup wasn't thick enough in a general sense. I will give only 2 stars because I don't like the smell of meat in my food.
For the main course my hubby had "Pork belly, aubergine cream, miso, carrot, hazelnut" from the à la carte menu. He loved it and felt it was perfectly cooked but since he doesn't like meat with something sweet in taste it was a little difficult to eat it. I ordered the "Duck breast, chervil, potato, pear and raisins" and I absolutely loved it!!
The dish we ordered for dessert was unavailable along with another appetiser. But what's more! The chef was so kind he put any 2 desserts for us on the house and we got 2 desserts for free. Luckily we were served by the kindest staff. Thank you very much Mandragoreans. Wish you all the more popularity and love!!
Also another important thing to know is they keep updating their menu with new items so reading all these reviews wouldn't really help you but I would trust this place to be one of the best culinary experience you...
Read moreMandragora is a hidden pearl, and I’m happy I could discover it. Our first visit to this restaurant was 2 years ago during our stay in Budapest. I remember us coming to the restaurant’s neighborhood and my husband told “Oh my, it’s just a residential area”, but as soon as we entered the restaurant, slight disappointment changed to a great delight. The restaurant has a very cozy terrace, which is not obvious from the street. It’s hidden behind the trees and bushes and it’s a real pleasure to sit there. The service is very good, the waiters are helpful and polite, answer all the questions regarding menu, dishes, ingredients and even the origin of food. I was pleasantly surprised. The food itself is delicious, that’s why this time during our visit to Budapest we came here to have dinner again. It’s a very welcoming place, should I have any other trips to Budapest in future, I will definitely drop to Mandragora for relaxed and...
