Széllkapu park — Attraction in Budapest

A centrally located patch of green in the heart of Buda that is full of strange solutions. It is a public park, but guards patrol the area like they secure the national treasury. The industrial, sharp-angled architecture, that reflects Széll Kálmán Square's style meets the not so people's garden feeling with the mandatory automated fountain system. Kids love it for sure, but they would love an inexpensive sprinkler to play with too. The sort of hanging-garden wall/bridge connects the old part of the park with the new section. It also separates the Mammut mall from the park and it is a huge question mark, because nobody knows why it's there at all. It would make more sense If it would had been placed parallel with the avenue to block the noise from the traffic for example. In the dead center there are 3 steel structures that try to mimic trees with solar panels on their top but the only thing they reminds us is how far off we have drifted from nature. The oversized and unusable concrete peebles around these pillars are just an addition to the chaotic and ecclectic structure of the park. The little pond is a positive part and probably the only place where you can forget that you are surrounded with an architectural and urban-space...

A Budapesti Millenáris történetei A Millenáris Park Budapest egyik legizgalmasabb és legváltozatosabb helyszíne, amely számos történetet és eseményt rejt magában. Az egykori Ganz-gyár területén található park ma kulturális központként és közösségi térként szolgál, de múltja sokkal régebbre nyúlik vissza.

A Ganz-gyár kora A Millenáris helyén egykor a Ganz Villamossági Művek épületei álltak, amelyeket 1878-ban alapítottak. A gyár a XIX. század végén és a XX. század elején a magyar ipar egyik meghatározó szereplője volt. A terület ipari jellege egészen az 1990-es évekig megmaradt, amikor a gyár vidékre költözött.

A park kialakítása A Millenáris Park kialakítása 2000-ben kezdődött, amikor a régi gyárépületeket lebontották, és a területet megtisztították a szennyeződésektől. A park hivatalosan 2001-ben nyílt meg, és azóta számos kulturális és közösségi eseménynek adott otthont.

Érdekes események és történetek 2001: A park megnyitása óta számos fesztiválnak, koncertnek és kiállításnak adott otthont. Az egyik legemlékezetesebb esemény a 2001-es megnyitó ünnepség volt, amelyen több ezer ember vett részt. 2006: A parkban rendezték meg a Magyar Dal Napját, amelyen több mint 100 zenekar lépett fel. 2010: A Millenáris adott otthont a Magyar Nemzeti Galéria egyik kiállításának, amelyen a magyar festészet remekművei voltak láthatók. Filmforgatások A Millenáris Park számos film és televíziós produkció helyszíne volt. Például itt forgatták a “Budapest Noir” című filmet, amely a 1930-as évek Budapestjét idézi meg.

A park mai arculata Ma a Millenáris egy modern, zöld oázis a város szívében, ahol a látogatók sétálhatnak, pihenhetnek, és részt vehetnek különböző kulturális programokon. A parkban található épületek és szobrok a régi gyár emlékét őrzik, miközben a modern építészet és a zöldterületek harmonikus egységet alkotnak.

The Stories of Millenáris in Budapest Millenáris Park is one of Budapest’s most exciting and diverse locations, filled with numerous stories and events. Located on the former site of the Ganz Factory, the park now serves as a cultural center and community space, but its history goes back much further.

The Era of the Ganz Factory The site of Millenáris was once home to the Ganz Electrical Works, founded in 1878. The factory was a key player in Hungarian industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The industrial character of the area remained until the 1990s when the factory moved to the countryside.

Creation of the Park The development of Millenáris Park began in 2000, when the old factory buildings were demolished, and the area was cleaned of contaminants. The park officially opened in 2001 and has since hosted numerous cultural and community events.

Notable Events and Stories 2001: Since its opening, the park has hosted numerous festivals, concerts, and exhibitions. One of the most memorable events was the opening ceremony in 2001, attended by thousands of people. 2006: The park hosted the Hungarian Song Day, featuring performances by over 100 bands. 2010: Millenáris was the venue for an exhibition by the Hungarian National Gallery, showcasing masterpieces of Hungarian painting. Film Shoots Millenáris Park has been the location for numerous film and television productions. For example, scenes from the film “Budapest Noir,” which evokes 1930s Budapest, were shot here.

The Park’s Modern Appearance Today, Millenáris is a modern green oasis in the heart of the city, where visitors can walk, relax, and participate in various cultural programs. The buildings and sculptures in the park preserve the memory of the old factory, while modern architecture and green spaces create a harmonious unity.

Visit this park if you're looking for a holiday feel in the middle of the city.

There is plenty of space to walk, nooks to hide for a catch up chat with your best friend, lots of grass to have picnics with your kids, or to read a book alone looking at a pond, or just sit on some benches and contemplate the fish and the hanging garden.

🏃‍♂️If you're looking for more athletic activities, you can climb the ramp of the hanging gardens, or 👙 don a swimming suit and join the kids in running through the fountain.

There are at least two places to get drinks 🍻 and food 🍿 (I haven't been so I can't officially recommend) so if you forgot your own snacks or beer you can remedy that.
