It started very well ; the mojito is tasty and my request for less sugar was taken into consideration.
The vareniki with potatoes and sour cream are delicious.
Thankfully I carry my own organic Indian 🇮🇳 spices 🌶 , black pepper, fresh basil and fresh green pepper so it actually tasted good.
Had I not added the above mentioned the dish would be totally bland.
I opted for csirke paprikas because it is one of my favourite dishes and because the 'real deal' is usually only found in Hungary 🇭🇺
Alas, what I got looked like csirke paprikas but didn't taste of it.
It tasted of what it was made of ; a large amount of cream (it has a good texture but it is not at all sour which is why I prefer to call it cream) and a little paprika mixed in to disguise that it is an imitation.
To this master piece 3 or 4 chunks of grilled chicken fillet were drowned.
It tasted like a lidl pop in the microwave chicken in 'rahmsauce' minus the mushroom that in Germany 🇩🇪 typically costs 7 to 8 Euros (not at all what I expected from Mischenko).
The knodelli were surely pre cooked.
The friendly Ukrainian 🇺🇦 waitress recommended I choose her "favourite" dessert which is tiramisu.
The doubting Thomas in me decided not to take her advice.
Instead I ordered a choc ganache.
As in most restaurants in Budapest Mischenko outsources his desserts to large catering firms and this identical choc ganache can be found in a thousand and one restaurants across town.
It had some fresh berries which were appreciated but it was not of a level that could elevate the rating to 4 stars.
If anyone suffers from anorexia and wishes to boost his/her calorie intake in record time a visit to Mischenko Kitchen is a good idea because the meal I had probably contained more than 3,000 calories despite that the amount of meat was less...
Read moreCame to the restaurant on two consecutive days. First day we had the fried pelmeni as starters. And already from the first bite, I felt like I was in heaven. Both the pelmeni, and the sauce were absolutely fantastic - Such perfect combination of tastes and textures, that with every bite, I fell more and more in love. As the main course, we got the shashlik to split between the two of us. It was honestly the best shashlik that I have ever had. Perfectly grilled, with crispy edges, but still juicy and tasty on the inside. The dish came with potatoes, salad, and and a lot of caramelized onions, and was plenty enough for two people to share. The great food is also accompanied by extremely nice and professional waitresses. They were very helpful with everything and gave good recommendations on everything. Service was fast, and everything was handled with a smile. We were so impressed of everything, that we had to come again on the next day, to try more dishes. On the second day, we got the Fried Pig Ears in soy sauce, and my life was changed after this dish. If I had to choose my last supper, this would be it. Full of flavor, and in combination with a beer, it is a match made in heaven. As a second, we got the Goulash, and again, it did not let us down. Absolutely fantastic, the best goulash I've had in Hungary do far. On this day, we also managed to fit in some desserts, and the Chocolate fondant was a very classical dish, but all the tastes were great. And the other dessert we got was the Syrniki, and it was my first time having these, and it was a very welcome surprise. A lot of different tasty sauces came with it, and the combination of everything worked very well together. When I am in Budapest the next time, I will come back, there is no...
Read moreMouth watering food, amazing service, fantastic ambience. What a great place. Highly recommend. It truly felt like someone’s grandmother was in the kitchen cooking up a storm. Every dish I tried (and I ordered quite a lot!) was absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and clearly made with so much love and care. The menu is extensive, with a wonderful mix of Hungarian, Ukrainian, and European fusion dishes that make it hard to choose—everything sounded tempting, and nothing disappointed.
The service was just as memorable as the food. My waitress was attentive, kind, and sweet, taking the time to be curious about me and my travels, which made the whole experience feel even more personal and special. She also helped me with my choices making recommendations.
The restaurant itself is intimate—small but mighty—with a lovely, cozy ambiance that makes you feel right at home. Conveniently located near a subway station on a main subway line, it’s easy to find, and worth going out of your way for. It’s on a quiet street away from the high volume tourist spots. Honestly, this is one of my favorite restaurants I’ve ever been to, and I’d go back to Budapest just for it . A truly unforgettable...
