The main building of Museum of Applied Arts is closed but significant pieces from its collection are on display in the the Ráth György-villa - (Budapest, Városligeti fasor 12, 1068 Hungary) . On display are original examples of Art Nouveau styles on several floors including paintings, posters, porcelains, vases, and furniture. Also on display are beautiful reproductions of dresses and other apparel based on Art Nouveau designs. These reproductions are the work of the contemporary textile designer, Katti Zoob . A special shout out to Balint Szenczy, a museum docent who showed us around the museum. He is as passionate about the museum collection as he he is in bringing a clear and deeper understanding of this important historic collection to visitors The museum is a 10-minute walk from Heroes Square and was free to...

I decided to visit the Museum of Applied Arts after reading all about Odon Lechner. This guy produced some stunning buildings in Budapest but seems to be less celebrated than the likes of Antoni Gaudi for instance.

To be honest the building itself is the main attraction with its stunning Zsolnay roof tiling, the interior is pure white (it wasnt this way originally) and is very eastern in style.

To wander into the main foyer is free as far as I know, but I also got free entry into exhibitions on Haydn and Time, Art Nouveau furniture and an exhibition on Ottoman Carpets.

In terms of the overall Museum content, think of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and you wont be far wide...

The Museum attracted me mostly for its outside shape and the beautiful ceramic roof-landscape. The entrance is in ceramics, too and opens expectations. Inside instead all in white, huge spaces, mostly empty but lovely to just sit and enjoy a coffee. The exhibition beautiful, but relatively scarce. From such a huge building you would have expected a huge amount of spaces filled with objects. This is not the case. So if you want to see beautiful things and you get tired to walk through museums, this one might offer you the right amount of objects which you can admire with calmness and without...

MUSEUM OF APPLIED ARTS The Museum of Applied Arts stands as the third-oldest applied arts museum in the world. The marvelous building with its distinctive green roof was erected between 1893 and 1896 in the Hungarian Secession style. The interior showcases a blend of Hindu, Mogul, and Islamic designs. Unfortunately, during our visit, the museum was undergoing renovations and remained inaccessible to the public. Furthermore, the entirety of its exterior was concealed by construction wraps, depriving us of the opportunity to appreciate its exterior beauty.

Closed! I wish I could rate it 5 stars, I'm sure I would if I could have gone inside. It's closed. Since 2017. Some of the reviews here seemed to imply people had been there since 2017. The website kinda looks like it's open (there's ticket purchase link). So maybe it's specially open some days? Upon closer inspection, the hours listed here do say "closed" every day. So it's my own fault. But do your research! On the bright side, you get to wander around a cute neighborhood.
