Three of us arrived here from Lapland around 11 this morning, wanting to try some Icelandic lamb. We were all veery hungry after traveling from north of the Arctic Circle in Finland. We are all used to feeding our families mainly organic game, such as reindeer, moose, plus local chicken and lamb in Lapland. Two reindeer herders in our party ordered the lamb chops with roast potatoes and salad, I got the lamb pita. This is slow food so don't be in a hurry. And we were early, before the main lunch crowd, so there were only a few customers and our wait was minimal, plus I was able to chat with the chef while she grilled our lamb and prepared the platters. I will always swear that the best lamb I have ever had in my life is local leg of lamb in Ilulissat, Greenland. However, this is now hands-down the best lamb pita I have ever had... it is kind of like a gyro, only with different tzatziki and stuffings than in Greece. Prior to this, my best lamb pitas were in Greece and Montreal. My friends that ordered the chops agreed, this was superior lamb. Friendly service and, by Icelandic standards, reasonable prices. I will be back. The chef was extremely helpful and friendly, and she also pointed me to where I can purchase a couple a frozen legs of local lamb to pop into my luggage on our return trip to Finland in 10 days. We are headed to SW Greenland tomorrow and of course will be sampling the local lamb there, as well as wild reindeer and ptarmigan. I highly recommend this unassuming place for top...
Read moreI would have wanted to give this place 3 stars… but downgrading to 1.. because of the service
The food was ok.. maybe 3.5 stars.. the problem was the food was nothing special or outstanding…. The taste and overall dish was not memorable - our conclusion at the time of dinner.
The lamb skewer was ok.. it was kebab style…. (I could be wrong on this).. but what I meant to say is… it chunks of meat and not made from ground meat.. the skewer not tender enough.. wasn’t marinated long enough to break down the meat
The Lamb sandwich was kinda tasty… same deal with the tenderness of the meat..
The service was bad.. the lady was given me and the guy (the guy who worked there) cut eyes for giving me napkins and when I asked for more 3 pieces for my two dishes.. she said she already gave…
Sooo… 3 stars… probably won’t return just because the food wasn’t worth returning for.. might as well try other places… 1 star for giving...
Read moreThis was my last evening in Iceland and I discovered this place while walking on the bay area side. I went in and there were several different little food places to choose from! From an Asian restaurant to a traditional Icelandic restaurant. There were tables in the middle and by the window. I had gone to Fhárhúsid for an Icelandic lamb burger with a beer. It was delicious and filling! You can definitely taste the flavors and seasonings. If you're near the bay/boat area and looking for a bite, just look for the green/blue building and you'll find the food within! Great service and a great cozy atmosphere with good...
