I have been traveling to Europe several times each year for many decades now and I have written plenty of good reviews for hotels and restaurants. This is the first time I am writing one with a low rating. I am THAT disappointed.|I came to Reykjavik with my granddaughter. We stopped in Reykjavik briefly on our way to continental Europe and now again for a longer stay on our way home. We stayed at the Konsulat coming, and we liked it, but I wanted to end our trip with something really special so I "upgraded" us to the Edition. What a mistake!|Looking at the internet descriptions, I saw that apart from the prohibitively expensive suites, the only room with seating for more than one was the so-called LOFT KING. Priced at around $1500, without breakfast, it was a real splurge for me, but the written description (confirmed by lovely photos) promised a room with a chair, a couch and a table that seats three. I thought that would be perfect as we like to read together during the day and she likes to draw at a table.|Let me describe what awaited us:|We arrived in the late afternoon by cab. It was raining. No surprise there. The driveway was blocked by a truck with a window washer so the taxi had to park a ways away. No one greeted us so we lugged our suitcases and packs inside in the rain by ourselves. |There was a long line at check in. Be prepared to wait! We were finally handed the keys to room 443. Here's what we found:|There was that one comfortable signature chair (that most rooms appears to have), albeit it was stuck in a corner and there was a massive curtain pile up there so it was completely dark and had no window light at all coming through.|Besides that chair there was a random small chair placed at the other end of the room, in.a narrow strip of useless corridor-like space. No couch. No table for three. No light. Nothing else there.|I wanted to unpack our bags. There is absolutely no storage for your clothes in the "closet" except for a hanging rack and two tiny drawers -- the kind you find in night tables. There is in fact also a huge cabinet in the room full of expensive foods and drinks you can purchase. Oh, how I would love to swap it out for a chest of drawers! We will have to live out of our suitcases.|I had ordered flowers --I asked for a bouquet of local blooms. None were there. I let them know that I paid for flowers. Sometime later, a bouquet arrived -- of a few roses and daisies, stuck in a vase that was way too big, so the bouquet leaned clumsily against the side. |At the least the view was as promised: a bad one, to the courtyard. |I called and eventually was connected to someone in some position of authority who informed me that the rooms varied and were not always as photographed. I understand that, but the written description of this room lists items that are simply not there. Items that made me choose and pay for this room. He agreed that this was unfortunate and that we could eventually move to a more accurately furnished room when one became available. In June, they tend to be full.|It is to me incomprehensible how you could be part of this large luxury chain and put up descriptions on the webpage of furniture in an upgraded room that simply do not exist in all rooms of that category. |I'll list, out of frustration, other small things, though by no means would they alone lead me to write this kind of a review: all the people waiting to check in must have been tired after long journeys, flights being what they are to reach Iceland. Being greeted by loud pounding music just gave me a huge headache. Not luxury. More like a nightclub. Then, too, I was told I had some a $50 credit to spend at the hotel restaurants or bars. Great! Can I use it for the $55 per person breakfast? No, I cannot. It's at the restaurant but breakfast is excluded. Again, minor annoyances, none spelled out in the description of this 5 star hotel.|I so wish we had stayed again at the Konsulat. I did give two stars here because really, the staff was very friendly and professional and the room is very clean. Too, while we were out to dinner, the management managed to bring in a couch. Where did they even find one? I do not know. My granddaughter and I rearranged the furniture so it would make some aesthetic sense to have it there. There is no lamp or light by it but we are in luck! This is June, so the night never gets dark!|A massive, expensive...
Read moreHaving traveled extensively and stayed in some of the world’s most iconic hotels—from the Ritz in Paris to the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, from the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai to other five-star landmarks—I can confidently say that my stay at The Reykjavik EDITION has been one of the best experiences of my life. I’ve been fortunate to experience luxury at its finest, but what truly sets a hotel apart is not just its architecture, amenities, or reputation—it’s the people who create an unforgettable journey.
My experience with The Reykjavik EDITION began weeks before my arrival. From the very first phone call, I knew I was in exceptional hands. The communication was effortless, every email was answered with care, and every detail of my itinerary was meticulously planned to perfection. It felt like they were just as excited for our anniversary trip as we were, which is a rare and beautiful thing in hospitality.
When we arrived, we were upgraded to a stunning suite, setting the tone for what would be an extraordinary stay. The warm welcome, the attention to detail, and the personalized touches made it clear that this was not just a hotel—it was an experience designed to make guests feel special, valued, and truly at home.
It’s impossible to write this review without mentioning the incredible team that made our stay so exceptional. Their warmth, professionalism, and genuine kindness touched our hearts, making it hard to say goodbye.
First and foremost, Alejandra. There are no words to express how much I appreciate everything she did. She didn’t just assist with our trip—she crafted an experience filled with joy, surprises, and effortless perfection. She is now truly close to my heart, and her dedication made all the difference.
Then, there’s Indre, whom we sadly did not get to meet in person, but she played a significant role behind the scenes, ensuring everything was flawless. And of course, Christina, who made sure we had nothing to stress about. She orchestrated everything so smoothly that we barely had to lift a finger.
At the front desk, we were welcomed by the sweetest and most attentive team: • Coco, who checked us in with such warmth and attentiveness. We casually mentioned Iceland’s famous marriage cake, and the next day, four beautifully presented pieces were waiting in our room—a perfect example of the team’s attentiveness to even the smallest details. • Leonore, Eva and Joy who were always so kind and helpful, making us feel like old friends rather than guests. Their energy and positivity made every interaction a delight.
The exceptional service extended to the restaurants and bars, where the staff truly elevated the experience to another level: • Themis and Duda at the bars—wow! Not only were the cocktails crafted to absolute perfection, but every visit to the bar felt like a mini celebration. Their energy and hospitality turned simple drinks into a full experience, making every evening special. • The team at Tides, including Sozon, was phenomenal. Every meal was an experience, every dish prepared with care, and every moment was curated with thoughtfulness.
Even the restaurant reservations outside the hotel were handled effortlessly. The Reykjavik EDITION team called ahead to inform the restaurants about our anniversary, so when we arrived, we were greeted with extra-special treatment. That level of detail, care, and thoughtfulness speaks volumes about the kind of service this hotel offers.
There wasn’t a single moment during our stay that felt ordinary. Every detail was orchestrated with such grace and elegance that it was impossible not to feel completely immersed in the magic of the experience.
I wholeheartedly recommend The Reykjavik EDITION to anyone looking for a hotel that goes beyond luxury and into the realm of the extraordinary. The level of service, the warmth of the staff, and the attention to detail make it one of my favorite hotels in the world—on par with the legendary Ritz Paris.

Discovering the epitome of Icelandic luxury at EDITION Hotels in Reykjavík is an unparalleled experience. The 2021 opening in this vibrant city showcases EDITION's commitment to cultural adaptations, setting a new standard in hospitality.
Strategically positioned at the waterfront within the city center and adjacent to the architecturally distinctive Harpa concert hall, the hotel boasts the trifecta of "Location, location, location." With just over 250 rooms, it exudes boutique charm, complemented by a proactive and dedicated staff who elevate the stay.
What sets EDITION apart is its unique ethos of relaxed luxury, amicability, and a strong sense of locality. Reykjavik seamlessly incorporates these hallmarks, offering an elite experience without unnecessary fuss, cultural highlights that immerse guests in the city's identity, and a consistent touch of luxury throughout.
In a world where the term "luxury" has become somewhat trite, this stay redefines it. Luxury is not merely about the price but intricately tied to detail and quality. The rooms, characterized by modernity and minimalism, showcase refined furnishings, natural textiles, and smart fixtures. Highlights include floor-to-ceiling windows, a cleverly integrated minibar over a credenza, a rainfall shower, and a thoughtful ceramic carafe set for purified tap water consumption. Complimentary Le Labo amenities add a fragrant touch.
The lobby itself is a testament to thoughtful design, featuring a piled sculpture of varda, shearling throws, and a communal circular fireplace that creates a warm ambiance. The attention to detail extends beyond aesthetics; it permeates the service.
The staff's commitment to personalization and consistency is truly commendable. From the first interaction, they inquire about the preferred mode of address, and the subsequent recall of names demonstrates a level of attention that defines luxury. Each encounter feels tailor-made, akin to the enchantment of a child engaging with the Disney cast.
Personalization extends to communication, with efficient multi-touch interactions in person, via room phone, and email. This attention to "touch" resonates throughout the stay, creating a seamless and delightful experience.
A brief sidebar recounts a racial incident contrasting experience in Miami Beach EDITION, emphasizing the remarkable difference encountered in Reykjavík. The genuine celebration of me as a guest, especially during a birthday trip, exemplifies the pinnacle of hospitality.
TIDES, the on-site dining experience, elevates the culinary journey. Attentive staff, native cuisine of the highest quality, and unexpected birthday surprises, including complimentary Prosecco and a scrumptious chocolate cake, make it a memorable affair.
A special mention goes to Igor, who went above and beyond with a post-dinner tour, providing insights into the interior design, a walkthrough of TÖLT, and a brisk exploration of the rooftop balcony with stunning views. The surprise reserved seating at the rooftop bar with a complimentary rosé champagne cocktail presentation was the perfect finale.
A five-star rating is extended to every individual who attended to me, from the reception desk to the overnight engineer. While names are omitted, the gratitude is sincere.
Having experienced other EDITION properties and various hospitality brands, coupled with a background in Real Estate, the absence of pretense at Reykjavík EDITION stands out. Consistent pleasantries, accommodating follow-ups, and a bespoke approach make it an exemplary model of modern hospitality.
Reykjavík goes beyond expectations, embodying a platinum level of service. The local custom of offering a "Warm welcome to Iceland" is not just a saying here; it is a specially delivered and exceptional reality.
In conclusion, the stay at EDITION Hotels in Reykjavík is not just a visit; it's an immersion into a world where luxury is redefined, and hospitality becomes...
