// René served us and she was amazing!! // Went here in December 19, 2023 to try out their vast amount of interesting meat choices!

We had previously came the day before for dinner but they were booked, so, FYI, must reserve!! This is a hot spot for tourists. They kindly found us a spot in their packed schedule for the next night at 9pm. Everyone there was just simply so accommodating!!

Our hostel front desk recommended us this place, and we were pleased by everything.

We had raw (sashimi) whale as our appetizer along with smoked puffin breast. The raw whale tasted like iron, liver, and tuna if it was mixed together. The puffin tasted like smoked salmon. I also had the creamy mushroom soup, which was very very creamy and delicious!!

Then we had horse tenderloin and wild seabird “Guillermot” for our main dish. The horse honestly tasted just like beef, maybe just a tad different. The guillermot tasted again like liver/heart with irony aftertaste but had a chicken breast texture. Which was all very interesting. I am used to eating these kind of flavors so I thought it was good!

The best part about this dinner was René. She was so so so accommodating, friendly and just the sweetest. She patiently served us, and as tourists, it’s so helpful to have people like her who are just nice to us. Thank you !! You are amazing. I want to shout out the rest of the dinner service team as well, they were all...

This is a difficult review as it was probably the best meal I had in my visit to Iceland. The food is five stars- the presentation was impeccable, the freshness of the food was without question, the variety covered many seafood choices to lamb and even whale. I had the roast whale appetizer and it was amazing. For main, I recommend the hash fish. The price was not terrible- this is Iceland and food is simply expensive everywhere. The fault for this restaurant is the service is abysmal and the ambiance suffered as well. Paper napkins are out of place, as it having to go to the counter to pay for your meal. The problem wasn't a lack of service, as there seemed to be plenty of staff- it was they didn't care. The table next to us had to ask for more water, we never had anyone come by to inquire as to the meal. We didn't order dessert as no one was interested enough to ask. Also, the wine was suspect. They did not open the bottle at the table, and I suspect it had turned or had been opened before. I was offered a taste, so it was my own fault that I hoped it would breathe and improve- and let's just say that more than half the bottle remained at the end of the night. There are other places in Iceland to explore for eating, and I wouldn't refuse to return here, but I'll suggest other...

I have been coming here for years as this restaurant is my mom's favorite place. It has held up so well over the years. The food is amazing and the price is very fair for what you get. The restaurant itself is very cozy with an intimate atmosphere, and the staff is very friendly and professional. You can tell they are proud of the work they do there.

I got the Whale Pepper Steak With Pepper Sauce, and I was not disappointed with my choice. The whale was delicious and the Pepper sauce went very well with it. My boyfriend got the lamb dish with a mix of the pepper sauce and the other sauce you can choose from, and he loved how tender the lamb was. My mom ended up getting the whale sashimi as an appetizer, and while I'm not a fan of raw seafood, it was still worth it to try! I would also highly reccomend the vegetable soup especially on a cold or rainy day, it is absolutely delicious.

Our server was excellent and and very friendly, he was very good about checking up on us and making sure we were alright on drinks and other items.

Reservations are required. I would highly reccomend eating here, especially if you want to enjoy some authentic Icelandic cuisine. Just be sure to plan ahead so you can...

Ending Iceland with another food adventure 🐳🐦🐟🦈 Situated a bit outside the city is the Three Coats (Thrir Frakkar). Even though it was about a 15m walk from the hotel, we felt safe and enjoyed seeing what seemed like the suburbs of Reykjavik. The restaurant was at the corner of a small road and did not disappoint. We got to try puffin meat (1st photo), fermented shark (the cubes), dried fish, seabird (3rd photo), and whale steak(last photo). Without my Vietnamese taste palette, I think I would not have had the guts to try all these foods. Surprisingly, the whale meat was my favorite. The puffin sashimi style meat was actually quite tasty. The fermented shark was just salty and chewy. The dried fish was less flavorful than Vietnamese dried squid, still okay. The seabird came to a close second, but the whale meat was in a league all on its own. We also loved chatting with our waitress who was actually from South Africa studying English in Iceland! After dinner, we rushed to our Northern Lights Super Jeep tour from 9pm to 1am. Unfortunately, the storm was too strong and we saw no lights that night... BUT I had a great chat with the tour guide and got a few free Brennivin shots with him 🤣

We started with the garlic toast with cheese which was perfect, followed by smoked puffin. The smoked puffin had a wonderful flavor and reminded us of a beefy summer sausage. It was delicious. We had a third appetizer, the sashimi whale. The wasabi had a perfect bright heat and ginger was refreshing to clear the pallet. The sashimi was some of the best I've ever tasted, including my time in Tokyo. For our main courses we ordered the grilled lamb which melted in the mouth amd paired beautifully with the bernaise sauce and the pepper steak whale. The pepper steak had a consistency of a thin flank stank. It was easily cut along the grain and also paired very well with the pepper sauce which lived up to its name. It was quite enjoyable. For dessert we haf the house dessert of skyr cheesecake. Phenomenal! And the skyr brulée which I wish we could find both at restaurants when we go home to the U.S. I will be trying to recreate the skyr cheesecake recipe when I get home for the upcoming holidays!
