While reflecting on a week’s worth of meals in Reykjavik, one of my favorites was from Salka Valka! The four of us went around 1:00P on a Saturday and were seated right away at an indoor table by the back door. While it was nice to catch some of the breeze, our table was also right next to the restroom, and most of the time, at least one or two people were waiting in line and therefore standing right next to us. They have several covered tables out front along the street, but those were all occupied by the time we arrived.

The menu is on the smaller side, focused on Icelandic small plates, main courses and pizzas. The main courses are traditional Icelandic fare such as lamb shank, arctic char and the famous Plokkfiskur.

I ordered the PLOKKFISKUR (fish stew, 4300 ISK) and loved it! Haddock and cod were mashed with potatoes and topped with a creamy Bearnaise sauce. To me, it tasted like clam chowder, which was such a pleasant surprise! It had a smooth texture with some lumps and I only found one fish bone. The plate also included a scoop of Basmati rice, sweet potatoes, small side salad, rye bread with butter and a dollop of paprika ginger sauce. The sauce added a bold bright flavor and the sweet potatoes were natural and delicious. I enjoyed the sweet rye bread which went perfectly with the salty butter. For 4300 ISK, this was a hearty and well-rounded meal.

My dad ordered the FISH 101 REYKJAVIK PIZZA (3800 ISK) which had tomato sauce, mozzarella, fish of the day, olives, onions, mushrooms and garlic oil. I personally found this to be too fishy tasting for my liking, but he polished it off. My mom enjoyed the FISH & CHIPS (4100 ISK), so you can’t go wrong with that.

The staff was friendly and checked back with us a couple times to make sure everything was okay. I highly recommend this restaurant for a true Icelandic meal that is filling and pretty...

The food was astounding. Had the creamy soup (with bread), and my fiancé had the herring on rye bread (also amazing).

The service was prompt and professional until the end. I had finished my food (as had my fiancé), and was going to wash it down with my Heineken Zero (poured into a glass). I looked and saw a large fly swimming around in my beer. There was also a fly in my fiancé's wine. I brought this to the waitress' attention, asking for another beer (I had barely drank mine, and the fiancé was done with her wine). The waitress said with all seriousness, "it comes with the fly." Confused, I asked if I could get another beer. She stated again, seriously, that it comes with the fly. She then got upset and poured half a glass of ALCOHOLIC beer and handed it to me.

I then pointed out my bottle that said 0.0%, to which she said "Oh no, you should have said something!". I told her "Well you should've asked instead of getting pissy with me."

I promptly paid and left.

PLEASE come here for the food, but don't expect them to do much beyond their job (like, care about the...

This restaurant is super amazing with taste, service and its price. It is more affordable than others (I walked 4-5 restaurants to see their menu) with a high rating on Google. I ordered fish stew (plokkfiskur) for 4,300isk since it has a really high reputation and it was so good. The sauce in orange was really tasty, and the cod with smashed potatoes is fantastic. As an Asian I expect it has more rice, but it is actually make me very full with other carbohydrates (given that I have a bigger appetite than normal people😆). The bread is out of my expectation as well, never taste a bread like this. I wish to come back and try the lamb or catch of the day which both I wanna try but eating alone can't order too much.

Also really appreciate the staff who work yesterday (5 June) they are really helpful and nice to me and other guests. Being sensitive to their needs and very kindly help with water spilling incident caused by other guest.

Highly recommend...
