I DO NOT understand why this isn't 5 stars across the board. I was expecting a run down hostel type environment but instead it was more like a B&B! The room was cosy and had enough of what I needed. I even had some friends come in to warm up with coffee bc they walked me back to my room and there was more then enough space for us to hang out for a bit. Yes, there was a shared bathroom. However, I believe I was alone for a few days only floor so the bathroom was basically mine. And it was cleaned immaculately every morning. But some people came and stayed on my floor for a few days and they were SAVAGES! I went into the restroom during the night and someone had deficated on the floor! I was so angry not just bc it was unsantitary but bc they were rude to the wonderful hosts of this amazing establishment!! SHAME ON THEM AND I HOPE TJEY SEE THIS AND ARE EMBARRASSED!!! But in the morning the restroom was as spotless as always. I talked to the housekeeper on my way out. I apologized for the rude behavior on behalf of the rest of the guests. She was so sweet! Everyone there is. From check-in to check-out they were amazingly inviting and warm. They even stored my suitcase after checking out while I enjoyed my last day in Iceland. I just enjoyed staying here so much I can't imagine staying anywhere else when I return. I didn't say anything about the breakfast bc I never had it. I kept missing it bc I was sleeping in. Yes, they have THE MOST comfy beds and pillows in all of Reykjavik I'm sure. THIS PLACE IS SO AMAZING I COULD GO ON AND ON but I'll just say, do yourself a favor and stay here. You won't...
Read moreVery basic but very good value. Great location right next to the famous church everything in walking distance. Breakfast is included and had a great selection. This alone with save you 20-30$ a day! I recommend upgrading to a room with a microwave kettle cutlery and sink so you can get some food from Bonus. ||The downers. It's cold especially when you go to use the shower / bathroom which is shared. I thought it would be shared with another room but it looks like it's for all 7 units. The window is always open and someone keeps the back door open to outside. I kept having to close it.||Reception is in the breakfast area which is in another building Guesthouse Aurora which is a few houses over so be prepared to get your boots and coats to walk over. Alot of stairs and up and down in case this is a challenge for you.||Lastly it can be loud due to the closeness of the other rooms and guests. Also my room was on the street side so it can get loud there as well. ||All in all for the price it is great value for this city. It's nothing fancy and perfect if on a budget (or...
Read moreThis was by far the worst guesthouse we went to on our trip to Iceland.
When entering the building, a nauseating smell comes from the filthy bathroom which by the way is not clean at all. I almost threw up when I had to use it in the morning (during our stay, I prefered using toilets at restaurants to avoid using theirs).
I didn't take a shower there because it's just impossible !
The room wasn't great either, there were multiple spots on the sheets and the pillows were horrible.
I obviously didn't use the kitchen either...
There were boxes all over the building that makes you feel like you are on a construction site.
On top of that, the reception is in another building and you can get towels only on demand in "the other building".
If you have a car, it's difficult to park.
Breakfast was meh.
Too expensive for what it is....
